Battle of Celene Pass
The Battle of Celene Pass in 584 CY was part of the Greyhawk Wars.[1]
After conquering the southern part of the Wild Coast the forces of the Orcish Empire of the Pomarj under Turrosh Mak turned south west and moved through the Suss Forest to invade the Principality of Ulek. These forces took a large part of Ulek west of the Jewel River, then turned northwest to drive up the ridge of the Lortmils between Celene and the County of Ulek driving until they reached Celene Pass. The defenders were weakened due to their main forces being away in the north assisting Furyondy against Iuz.
A force of human, gnome and halfling reservists, and some elves from Celene, who called themselves the League of Right, made a stand at Celene Pass. Advance scouts about 200 strong under the leadership of Rourk Splinterstone of the Ulek dwarves built a hasty wedge barricade of dirt and stone at a sharp bend in the Pass when they sighted advance orc scouts. Messengers were dispatched to Ulek and Celene calling for reinforcements, knowing they would arrive too late.
The defenders fought for three days including at night, against repeat waves of orc and goblin attackers. A second and third wall were built during the days. By the time the relief column from Ulek arrived, the orcish forces had been halted, but only Splinterstone and 30 of his men survived. No relief ever arrived from Celene.
