The Kabrevo Plain is a vast savannah which covers majority of southern Hepmonaland.

Description

The grassy flatland that covers most of southern Hepmonaland is home to settlements of humans and their herds of domesticated animals, as well as wild herbivores and predators of many types.[1]

All manner of animals are found throughout the Plain; Lions, cheetahs, rhinos, elephants, zebras, gazelles, antelope and fantastic variations of these common.[1]

History

The history of the Kabrevo Plain is intrinsically tied to the history of the Kingdom of Kunda, since the kingdom tied together the cities and tribes of the savannah, amongst others.

"By two and a half thousand years [before 591 CY], tribes of Touv wandered the savanna and lower jungles of Hepmonaland, farming small plots and chasing herds of wild cattle. ... the Touv in the south lands collected into larger groups and formed permanent settlements. Though there were a few fights over land and cattle, the majority of the Touv worked amiably with their distant cousins. A charismatic tribal leader named Onatal convinced three of the larger tribes to combine into one, and the agglomerate tribe took great leaps in metallurgy, farming, and herding. The remaining tribes quickly joined the large one, and Onatal proclaimed himself King of the Cities. The Kingdom of Kunda was born. The Kundali began to settle a larger and larger area, eventually coming into contact with the martial Olman city-states to the north. Repulsed by the Olman use of human sacrifice and their worship of a serpent god—the primary Touv evil god was Meyanok, a serpent-deity—the Kundali declared war upon the Olman."[2]

There was a great war, in which the Kingdom of Kunda were stymied at first by their unfamiliarity with the jungle. Eventually, the Touv defeated Olman nations and pulled back to the south, while the Olman migrated northward and to the Olman Islands.[3]

".... After fortifying its new northern borders, the Kundali returned to their previous existence of learning, herding and building. However, agents of the Touv snake-god corrupted the prince of [Jolan in -250 CY] and caused him to break from the Kingdom. Barely checked resentment burst forth in two other Kunda city-states [Ichamamna and Byanbo],[4] and they also seceded. Trouble within the capital prevented King Ikate from acting, and his successor [his brother][5] was unable to reunite the states [and he formally disbanded the Kingdom].[5] The Kingdom of Kunda lasted a little over 1,200 years."[2]

Geography

Almost the entirety of the Kabrevo Plain is savannah. Though it is comprised of mostly tall and short grasses, and various varieties of hardy trees and shrubs,[1] a savannah can be a place of incredible variation and beauty.

People

In addition to the Touv, Olman, and Suel, there are various demihumans and humanoids which inhabit the multitude of smaller regions of the Kabrevo Plain. Wemics, gnolls, and mongrelfolk are amongst the most common intelligent species[1].

Notable individuals

  • Anesh, the One Whose Teeth Cross—a 240-year-old elephant with genius intellect, scholarly in lore of the savannah; wanders northern Kabrevo with his three mates and their children
