Leastisle is an island at the far eastern edge of the Flanaess in the Solnor Ocean.
Description
Least Island is the southernmost of the islands that make up the realm of the Sea Baronies, but has not been fully in their control since 584 CY, and instead is in a state of anarchy with various pirates controlling small areas. There are few ships in port there to offer any kind of defense, mostly just half a dozen cogs and coasters in need of repairs [1].
History
The island was fully under the control of the Sea Barons until it was sacked in 584 CY and the former capital of Vernport was destroyed and along with it any overarching government on the island. [2] The sack of Vernport was spearheaded by a minor prince named Petreden of Torquann, who was then murdered in a brawl in Ready'reat of that year.[1] They made one attack against Port Elder and afterwards held off on attacking the other Sea Baronies in an uneasy truce. [3]
Geography
The long, narrow, island is the southernmost island in the chain which makes up the territory of the Sea Barons, and is located just off the coast of Ountsy, directly to the south of Fairisle.
People
About a third of the people on the island in 585 CY are indigenous, and many of them have been enslaved by the marauders who sacked the island.[1] Most of the rest of them are pirates and other ne'er-do-wells who were attracted to the anarchy, or had enemies on the mainland who they were trying to avoid.[4]. In 585 CY, about half the population of the Island was living in the sacked-out ruins of Vernport, and making sporadic and unorganized rebuilding efforts.[1]
Resources
One of the only resources left after the sacking of Leastisle was "the huge and tender sea clams that throng the western coastline."[5] Fishing vessels from Ountsy or Rel Astra will occasionally come to gather them, but always with a mage well-versed in spells such as fireball for protection.
Rumors and legends
Given the sightings of sea zombies along the southern coast, it is speculated that there must be a priest of Nerull operating somewhere in the sea caves or overgrown huts that dot the eastern part of the island. However, those on the island tend to ignore that fact so they don't have to deal with it.[4]
