Shothotugg is one of the Elder Evils revered by the aboleth and kopru races.
Description
Shothotugg is described as "an undulant mass of seething fluid the size of a mountain." Kopru believe that Shothotugg symbolizes all water.
Relationships
The kopru believe that Shothotugg is one of the two mothers of Demogorgon; the other is Prukal, the personification of darkness.
Realm
Shothotugg is said in Lords of Madness to exist in some distant corner of the multiverse, far removed from the Oerth. It travels through space, poisoning and infecting each world it encounters. With each world it destroys, the fundamental forces of the multiverse shift just a little bit. Over time, the planes have been significantly altered by Shothotugg's depredations.
The kopru believe that Shothotugg lives in deep underwater basins and pits.
Worshipers
Shothotugg is worshiped by the kopru and venerated by the aboleths. Aboleths do not typically worship anything, but they treat the Elder Evils with respect, shaping buildings and erecting statues in their likeness. Aboleths do not expect any favors or boons from the Elder Evils, but believe they existed before any of the gods and will continue to exist after the gods are gone.
Temples
Shothotugg is traditionally worshiped by the kopru in deep pits beneath basalt pyramids. Aboleths honor Shothotugg with elaborate pools and fountains of magical liquids far heavier than water, or with spiraling patterns on the floor of their homes.
Holy days and observances
Slaves and treasure are sacrificed to Shothotugg by being cast into great undersea rifts connected to Shothotugg's pits. The treasure in these pits is considered taboo by the kopru, who believe that any who attempt to claim it are subject to a terrible curse.
Myths and legends
The origin and destiny of all things
The kopru believe that Shothotugg's chaotic whirling is the source of all things, and that one day all will return to Shothotugg.
The source of power
On the day the kopru city of Shotho'Kopur was founded almost 13,600 years ago, the kopru sacrificed hundreds of slaves and tons of treasure into a great chasm. In return, Shothotugg granted them the ability to dominate other sentients with a hypnotic gaze.
Creative origins
Shothotugg is said in Lords of Madness to be similar to Azathoth from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.
