The Tetreault map (also known as the LG City of Greyhawk map or the RPGA map) is the common name for the map by Denis "Maldin" Tetreault of the City of Greyhawk, published by the RPGA/WotC (2000).
Description
The Tetreault map followed the maps in The City of Greyhawk (1989) by Valerie Valusek and Dave "Diesel" LaForce. It filled in much of the open space from previous maps, and gave the city an appearance commensurate with the population given in official sources.
Publication history
Tetreault created the original version of the map in 1989.[1] He submitted it to then-Editor of Dragon magazine, Dave Gross. It was declined, but Tetreault kept working on the map for decades.[2]
When the RPGA needed a new map of the city for the Living Greyhawk]] campaign, the Tetreault map was submitted for it. In working directly with editor Erik Mona, they realized the River Quarter and the Foreign Quarter boundaries did not quite make sense, and a few site location numbers were reworked. The map was published in Living Greyhawk Journal #2 (2000) as a fold-out poster map insert for that issue. LGJ #2 also included an index for the entire city (including district updates) and the first in a planned series by Mona and Tetreault, Gem of the Flanaess: The Artisans' Quarter". Clerkburg would also later be the subject of two separate articles. Though more were planned for all the districts, more articles were never published.
The next map of the Free City did not come until Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk (2007) with cartography by Mike Schley. Schley re-illustrated the city, adding detail to individual buildings created by Tetreault. Schley credited Tetreault as the basis of his map, saying, "This design of The Free City of Greyhawk was also influenced by the previous cartographic work of Denis Tetreault."[3] Schley lauded Tetreault's work (and all those before him), saying, "We as artists for companies, when working on projects with long shelf-lives, we kind of stand on the shoulders of giants."[4]
Tetreault later produced another version of his City of Greyhawk map in March 2020, publishing it by the WotC Fan Content Policy.
