Xenia Sallavarian is a noble of the Duchy of Urnst and Queen of Nyrond, married to King Lynwerd in 594 CY. [1]

Home

Her family is based in Nellix. [1] As queen she resides in Rel Mord.

Relationships

Xenia is a distant cousin of the Circle of Eight member Jallarzi Sallavarian and Duke Karll Lorinar of the Duchy of Urnst. [1]

The marriage to Lynwerd was believed convenient for both, but it was seen Lynwerd and Xenia were pleased in each other's company. Lynwerd was depressed for weeks after she fell into a coma in 589 CY. In 591 CY he seemed joyless,[2] and sorrowful and grimly joyless,[3] which seemed linked to the absence of Lady Xenia.

History

Lady Xenia had a long planned marriage to King Lynwerd of Nyrond. In 589 CY the wedding was scheduled to take place during Richfest. In Wealsun, Lady Xenia collapsed while touring Rel Mord on foot, apparently of heatstroke,[4] and remained in a coma for some years. Her attending priest could not revive her, and while she still breathed it was subsequently found her body was devoid of intellect and spirit. Divinations and questioning of witnesses suggested a magical attack. She was taken to Nellix to be tended by her family. Lynwerd was in despair for weeks after, and Richfest and Brewfest celebrations were muted in Nyrond that year. By 591 CY her condition had not changed in many years.[1]

In spring of 591 CY, rumors abounded that the head of the Alchemists' Guild had been called to visit Lady Xenia, and was the subject of much discussion amongst Rel Mord's guilds. He was a gnome known for treating disorders of both body and spirit, further suggesting her illness was far more than heatstroke.[5]

In Living Greyhawk

Lady Xenia featured throughout the Nyrond region Living Greyhawk campaign.

Adventurers were retained to find a cure for her malady. Rather than being in Nellix, her body remained in Rel Mord. In 591 CY the Alchemists' Guild (also known as the Flinty Hills Gnomish Union of Apothecaries, Alchemists, Abdjurationists and Astrologers, and as the Quadruple A or AAAA) were hired to obtain various rare ingredients, secretly for a believed cure. Attacks by assassins on the attempts suggested a conspiracy behind Xenia's malady and ensuring it continued.[6]

Adventurers were hired again that year to obtain various ingredients for a cure from around Nyrond, this time by Kurast the Elementalist (and the Grey Seer). This revealed an evil priest was behind the plot, and the involvement of a powerful succubi (Reala Nadir) who escaped.[7] Later in 593 CY adventurers had to deal with an outbreak of magical parasites causing the same malady as Xenia's. The infestation was tracked down to be the work of a priest of Incabulos returned as a mummy (Kalamid), who was defeated and his shrine destroyed.[8]

In 594 CY adventurers rescued Lady Astra Callistor in the eastern Abbor-Alz, who had been searching for a cure for Xenia and imprisoned by the Witches of the Bright who were aiding Sewarndt's efforts to usurp the throne as well as fulfil a prophecy for their own aims.[9] Later in 594 CY Reala Nadir returned to ensorscel Lynwerd disguised as a noble lady. The Grey Seer hired adventurers to help defeat her plan to wed him, and break the spell on Xenia. Reala planned to have a spy assassinate Xenia. During all this, Xenia recovered and awakened, and—with help from adventurers—they defeated Reala. (Xenia is indicated to be a bard.) Immediately afterward, she married Lynwerd in 594 CY, becoming queen.[10][11]

When Sewarndt staged his coup on the last day of 594 CY, Lynwerd and Xenia were spirited away by the Grey Seer. They fled to Barren Keep, where Lynwerd began marshaling support to win back the throne. Sewarndt blackmailed the High Priest of Rao, Durinken, to not overtly assist Lynwerd by threatening hostages. Adventurers assisted Durinken travelling to Barren Keep to aid Xenia giving birth to Princess Archarzi, having previously treated Xenia while in a coma for years. There the Witches of the Bright made an attempt on Xenia and Archarzi, and adventurers with Lady Astra Callistor and royal guards defeated them.[12]

In 598 CY an attack of undead from the tombs of Claw Point organized by a Nerullite conspiracy was defeated by adventurers and the military. Queen Xenia and Princess Archarzi visited Shantadern to thank the adventurers and soldiers involved.[13]
