Xilonen is a giant, carnivorous semi-sentient gigantic variety of polyp found in the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan.
Description
Xilonen was once worshipped by the Olman of Tamoachan as the "hairy mother goddess of corn".[1] It is not, however, actually divine.
It appeared to be a "withered tree, thta looks like a leafless withered willow, rooted in a stepped depression". It's "failing tentacles" would animate and could paralyze. It had a mouth concealed within the nest of tentacles which was protected by sharp spines and would try to "swallow" those who ventured too close.
Creative origins
Xilonen means "the hairy one," referring to cornsilk. Xilonen is another name for the historical Aztec goddess Chicomecoatl, who appeared in second edition Legends & Lore as Centeotl. Those who wish to flesh out the Olman cult of Xilonen might consult Centeotl's entry in that book.
