===Wild Flame Pact===

Some years ago, knights of Keoland helped joined forces with wood elves and fey of the Dreadwood to fend off an invasion by cultists of elemental evil fire. Thereafter, the crown of Keoland signed a mutual defence treaty with the treants and elves of the Dreadwood. This treaty, known as the [[Wild Flame Pact]], calls upon its members to protect each other from the more dangerous creatures inhabiting the Dreadwood.<ref name="gos-20"/><ref>An exact date is not given, but the reference to cultists of elemental fire suggests this may have occurred circa 566-579 CY when the Temple of Elemental Evil was active.</ref>

Burle is located in the Viscounty of Salinmoor, around twenty miles inland northwest of the town of [[Saltmarsh]]. It borders the [[Dreadwood]].<ref name="gos-20"/>

==Townscape==

Burle consists mainly of a small garrisoned keep atop a hill overlooking the Dreadwood. A distinctive copse of trees grows within the keep. Several farms surround the keep, relying heavily on the local garrison for protection. The keep is held by a royal garrison of Keoland.

==Travel==

Burle is an important stopover point for travelers from southern coastal towns such as [[Saltmarsh]] as they travel inward. It is also used as a resting place by adventurers seeking to venture into the dangerous [[Hool Marshes]] or [[Dreadwood]].<ref name="gos-20" /> Inhabitants of Burle and environs often travel to Saltmarsh to visit its weekly market.<ref name="u1-3" />

==People==

The ancient [[treant]] named [[Wander Root]] lives within the copse of trees in the middle of the keep. Wander Root serves as a sort of unofficial ambassador between the elves and fey of the Dreadwood and the humans of Keoland.<ref name="gos-20"/>

The garrison at the Burle keep is commanded by [[Kiara Shadowbreaker]], a half-elven knight of Keoland who takes her role seriously. The garrison primarily consits of fighters and rangers in the service of the Keoish crown.<ref name="gos-20"/>

The region around the town is primarily agricultural, with some trade conducted with neighbouring towns. Knight commander Kiara Shadowbreaker offers a bounty for any aberration, elemental, or outlaw slain in the region.<ref name="gos-20"/>
