The Meyer map is the popular name given to the map of the Flanaess by cartographer Anna B. Meyer.

Meyer's map of the Flanaess, 598 CY, v.2022.

Description

There have been many versions of the Meyer map over the years she has been working on it, but all are centered on the Flanaess. She originally created a version dated 598 CY, but has also completed a 576 CY version. The 2022 versions include all of Hepmonaland.

Publication History

The first version of the Meyer map was completed in 2014, but there were versions before that which Meyer released publicly on her website as far back as '03. She has released newer versions most every year since.

Altogether, the map is part of an "Atlas of the Flanaess" in which she breaks down the large map into a grid format and makes a page-by-page survey in an easy to view collection. Used with the included index of locations, this not only eases finding locations, but also loading images since the full map is remarkably high resolution and is an incredibly large single file.

Reception

The Meyer map is critically acclaimed, both professionally and by fans. Even though it is an unofficial fan-creation, many consider it to be the quintessential map of the Flanaess, compiling most all maps before it. When the first version was completed, it was nominated for a Best Cartography ENnie Award.[1] Since, there have been many further versions, as well as a variety of illustrations[1] including climate renderings such as ice age maps and elevated sea level maps, actual globes, regional section close ups, and a massive amount of new illustrations of Greyhawk heraldry.[2]
