Benkend is a sizeable village in what used to be the Southern Province of the Great Kingdom pre-Greyhawk Wars. It's a known recruiting ground for mercenaries and for trade with and spying on Rel Deven. Also tends to be a hot-bed of intrigue, or at least was during and just after the Greyhawk Wars, as various Torquann, Naelax, Darmen and Cranden princes vying for control of the area.

Rumors & legends
The road to the west of the village has been rerouted by some 3 miles. The old route is still fairly obvious, and alongside the overgrown tracks where the road used to be are large humanoid footprints of a yard long and an inch deep. Rumor has it that the footprints appeared overnight one night 100 years ago, and that they fill with blood as an omen of bad things to come. There are reports of them filling with blood just before Chelor's abduction by Ivid's armies and the night before Chathold was razed to the ground.
