== Account Hacked? ==
Hey there. :) Just wanted to update you. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Plume_Mountain White Plume Mountain] has just been made a GA, joining [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwellers_of_the_Forbidden_City Dwellers of the Forbidden City] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomb_of_Horrors Tomb of Horrors]. :) Plus, we've still got a few in the cooker... We've found that modules are (relatively speaking) way easier than anything else to move ahead, so we're going to try to get as many of the major ones as possible promoted. Hey there, Rob.   I hope you have your settings to recieve an email when there's something on your Talk page!
Sorry for contacting you this way ... the system won't let me contact you via email, and I don't have another address or contact method for you. I may try on Canonfire, if we don't get in touch.

==Greyhawk's article on Wikipedia==
Anywhoozle ... I don't know if you're aware or not, but the GHwiki on greyparticle.com has issues with bots and hackers, and it seems on 15 August 2023, for about six hours, your account was used to make something in the vicinity of 467 spam article pages on the wiki.  They're advertising cheat codes, gems, and coins for mobile games, or something.  ... (?)  They've each got bot-generated keyword titles like, "Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery Cheats And Unlimited Coins Gems".  If you want to see them, here's [https://ghwiki.greyparticle.com/index.php/Special:Contributions/Robbastard your Contributions page on greyparticle.com.]
Hello,

We are considering what to do to make [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greyhawk Greyhawk] into a "Good Article". Please discuss [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Greyhawk#Good_Article.3F here] if you like, or just check out the article itself and see what you can do. :) Note that since my last message, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expedition_to_the_Barrier_Peaks Expedition to the Barrier Peaks], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_Caverns_of_Tsojcanth Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth], and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Plume_Mountain White Plume Mountain] are also now GA's. At any rate—Just thought you should be aware, and I thought you might want to change your passwords that you use anywhere, if they may be the same as the one you used for the CF wiki.

Hey there, Rob! <br/>
I wasn't sure if you'd seen that I responded to your message on my Talk page. Also, I installed a <nowiki>{{delete}}</nowiki> template that will nominate any page for deletion, and put it in a Category for subjects of proposals for deletion.   Just wanted to check in and let you know we are working on things.

== Cool ==
Hey there. :) In my quest to get more Wikipedia articles up to "Good Article" status, I've gotten ambitious and decided to take on the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drow_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons) Drow] article. Yeah, call me crazy, but I'm going to do it. :) I've put a bunch of work into the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drow_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)#Advanced_Dungeons_.26_Dragons_1st_edition_.281977-1988.29 AD&D 1st edition section], using the sources I had on hand (don't have Q1 so did what I could), though I probably went overboard and will need to trim back a bit. I'm going to start on the 2nd edition section soon, but I would appreciate any help you or anyone you know can give towards building up the publication history properly, finding sources, checking for inaccuracies and completeness, etc. I'd especially need help in bulking up the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drow_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)#Novels novels] section, as I don't have any of these. Any help you can give, even as a cheering section, would be appreciated. :) [[User:BOZ|BOZ]] 22:57, 4 April 2009 (EDT)

Hi,
== Advice with anti-spam settings for wikis ==
Hi Robbastard,

You still have a mixture of "GH Wiki" and "The Great Library of Greyhawk". Have you and the other editors of this wiki settled on a final name for this wiki yet?
I've been helping someone get another MediaWiki wiki project off of the ground (one that is not public yet) and was telling them about your brilliant anti-spam policies here. I'm especially impressed with the way that you now have the entire wiki locked to non-editors and force people to use the Canonfire! forum to get an account. If he could do that, he could avoid all the sillyness that I know you and the other editors were reverting and then his team will be able to get the project ready to go live faster.

If you have then someone needs to go around and remove the "incorrect name", so that you just have one name for this wiki.
(I'm so frustrated that Wikia will not allow me to do the same thing with my ''own'' wiki - mind you it is now so full of adverts it is virtually unreadable. I shall probably be moving Spelljammer Wiki off of Wikia when I have the time and money to be able to do it. The 'fear' of the same level of spam that you and your team have been dealing with has been one of the things that have made me wait. But if you are willing to share your methods, you could be helping two wikis to move forward.)

I wanted to creat a page for your wiki on [http://www.wikiindex.org/Welcome WikiIndex], but there is no point in me doing that while you don't have the name sorted out. I don't want to create a page that is going to work against your "corporate identity".
Anyhoo, I wonder if you would be able to get me the instructions on how to lock down MediaWiki. My friend has access to a forum on his website, so he should be able to do both the tricks that you have done here.

Once you have that sorted out, it would be nice to see your wiki dropped into the [http://www.wikiindex.org/Category:Dungeons_%26_Dragons Dungeons & Dragons category of WikiIndex], as that is rather empty at the moment.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me (and my friend). [[User:Big Mac|Big Mac]] 19:16, 28 June 2011 (EDT)
*Your best bet would be to talk to [[Gary Holian]]. He really isn't active on the wiki, but you can pm him on the Canonfire boards. His user name is PSmedger.--[[User:Robbastard|Robbastard]] 20:05, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

::Thanks for the help! I'll get onto him now.

::Thanks for your speedy reply. The text "Ghwiki" appears in the <title> tag of the HTML that this wiki is generating. So it is showing up in the top of the user's browser on '''every''' page. I think an admin is going to need to fix that sort of thing. (Hopefully "The Great Library of Greyhawk" is not too long to fit up there. I suspect it is and that you might need to drop the word "The" from the start of the name.) [[User:Big Mac|Big Mac]] 10:30, 11 April 2009 (EDT)
== Amedio Jungle Map ==
Robbastard,

:::Thanks for the heads up on who can fix this. Would you be able to get in touch with Gary Holian, and pass on my suggestion to fix the title that the wiki is sending out?
Just curious, where did you get the GREAT map of the Amedio jungle you uploaded here?

:::BTW: I'm going to put up a basic page over at WikiIndex with the name "The Great Library of Greyhawk". It is a wiki, so feel free to edit the blurb and improve it. [[User:Big Mac|Big Mac]] 10:39, 11 April 2009 (EDT)

This user has been going around re-nominating articles which were previously AFD'd, and so far he has been pretty successful, at least in getting them merged instead of kept as articles. I'm pretty indifferent about whether the infobox images are 200 pixels or 250. 250 takes up a lot of visual real estate, but makes for clearer images with more detail, so I can see the pros and cons of both. If I had to choose, I'd go with the 250 pixel standard. -- [[User:Rip|Rip]] 19:54, 20 March 2012 (EDT)

== Dragon & Dungeon Magazine Images ==
Hi Robb, as you have already seen, i like a lot to add images to the wiki, many of them taken from Dragon & Dungeon Magazines. As I am italian, i do not possess any of english D&D Magazines, some of them were published also here (i have all the ones with Greyhawk content). So I want to ask you, if you have some of them, if you could scan (in the Hightest Quality possible) some of the pages with greyhawk related material, so that I could take the images from the scans and put them here. I know it's a bit weird request because there are already scanned pdf on the net, but many of then are in a quality that make the images almost impossible to extract.

Hello I hope that I can help my doing just some grunt work of copying and pasting stuff to expand what is already becoming a great site. I am having trouble creating a link for the city of Zeif.  If anyone could tell what I am doing wrong I would be very greatful.
Kind Regards ^_^, Omega9999
:I already have some, but it will take me awhile to get around to it. RL eats into my wiki time greatly. :)--[[User:Robbastard|Robbastard]] ([[User talk:Robbastard|talk]]) 12:21, 16 November 2014 (EST)

Is what I am doing worth while to this project?

[[User:LordTshil]] 6/5/2009
I know, but if you can manage to scan some pages and send them to me, I will do the rest ^_^

:I'm not sure what your issue is with the city of Zeif link. Without actually knowing the problem, I can only throw out random advice that possibly does not apply to you. Do you known the wiki-code for adding links? Do you have the capitalisation correct? Are you aware that [[City of Zeif]], [[City Of Zeif]] and [[city of zeif]] all point to different places? Maybe you could say what article you are having the problem in, so that someone else can surf over there and see what the issue is.

:Looks like some of the grunt work you are doing is the creation of 'stub' articles. I've seen other wikis, where they have a stub category and a stub template (or stub-section template) that automatically adds 'unfinished' articles into the stub category. But I can't find a similar category (or template) over here.

:I think the main reason for a stub category, is that your helpful work pulls these article names out of [[Special:Wantedpages]], but does not leave other editors with a clue that the page is still mostly empty. So when another editor comes along to help, they don't get a 'red flag' on the names of the articles that you have created. Essentially, you face the risk that the wiki eventually has a small percentage of 'mostly empty' articles and future editors struggle to find out where they are. But adding [[:Category:Stubs]] would create a list of articles (on the category page) that are known to need further attention. And that means that others can build on your good work (instead of having to hunt for it).
:::Done!--[[User:Robbastard|Robbastard]] 20:18, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

:BTW: You are not doing anything wrong here. I think that the stub issue has just been overlooked.

:Forgotten Realms Wiki calls this [http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/index.php?title=Category:Stubs Category:Stubs] (with an 's' on the end), so it looks like someone would have to choose between singular and plural. FR Wiki have 1,640 articles tagged as stubs, so it looks like they have an organised program of 'grunt work'.

:I'm not sure if The Great Library of Greyhawk wants to go down the same route as Forgotten Realms Wiki, but I think there are big advantages to going that way. Essentially, someone doing grunt-work, like you, can 'stub' as you create barebones pages and other editors can 'de-stub' (i.e. remove the stub-category) after they fill them out with more meaningful content.

:Not everyone can create fully detailed articles from scratch and I think there is an important role for editors like you. [[User:Big Mac|Big Mac]] 07:51, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

::The proper name of the city of Zeif is [[Zeir-i-Zeif]], according to the ''[[Living Greyhawk Journal]]'' #5.-- [[User:Rip|Rip]] 19:40, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

And yes, I think creating blank templates for the various cities is useful. It makes writing the articles much easier. -- [[User:Rip|Rip]] 19:41, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

==Infoboxes and Images==
I think the larger 250 pixel image looks a little much for the module, actually, but maybe that's just because I'm not used to it. On the other hand, some of the 200 pixel images are too small for detail to be seen. If you want to change all or future infobox images I wouldn't mind. -- [[User:Rip|Rip]] 18:27, 22 July 2009 (EDT)

Hi, I'm contacting you because you are one of the two people who has edited the [[Sea of Dust]] article. I just found a new source of information for the Sea of Dust. == Spam attack in progress! ==

Spammers are currently in the progress of setting up a number of fake user pages (with names including the spam information). They don't seem to actually be attacking any articles at the moment - just setting up their user pages. So far I see 15 spam user accounts.

You will find them all in the recent changes list. I'm currenlty going to all of the pages and removing their spam content. However, I am not able to block their IPs or delete the user accounts. Please can you bump this up the ladder ASAP.

I think that your account registration system might need a bit of an update, as it seems like some spambot has worked out how to bypass your current protection. [[User:Big Mac|Big Mac]] 17:29, 16 August 2009 (EDT)

:I guess not. I've just being doing it reflexively, I suppose.--[[User:Robbastard|Robbastard]] 20:21, 20 December 2009 (EST)

== [[Anne Brown]] ==

Hey Rob! I caught up with Anne on Facebook, and showed her the bio on Wikipedia, and this one as well. She had this to say:

"Hi there,
Gee whiz, I didn't know any of this stuff was out there!
If you have the time and inclination to edit the entry, that would be great. I just don't have time at the moment.
The hitch is that I never worked for WoTC. I left TSR in August 1997 and never left Wisconsin. I was also never in charge of Team Greyhawk -- just a very vocal advocate within TSR.
OMG, where did they find that picture? It had to be a seminar, and I'm wondering if it was the Greyhawk seminar at GenCon 1997.

I don't have any kind of "official" bio -- just whatever I cobble together any time I'm asked. More recently, I've been writing educational nonfiction books for middle schoolers. I haven't done any gaming work in a while.

Thanks for drawing my attention to this. I guess I should google myself once in a while!
Thanks!
Anne"

== Greyhawk characters ==

Hey Rob!

We have a user who's been adding some really nice background info on the Wikipedia articles for various Greyhawk characters, such as Mordenkainen, Bigby, Tenser, Zagyg, Rary, Robilar, Murlynd, Erac's Cousin, and even Gord. :) Just thought you might be interested to check that out. == How annoying ==

Hmm, where have we seen this before, iconic D&D monsters put up for deletion with no prior discussion at all...

== New entry -- Druniazth ==
Rob, need a little help.

Just created a new entry. Been collecting material, as promised. Forgot some things. Need help with the two "boxes" at the top of the page. do not remember how to get them right. Sorry to be a burden. [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 22:35, 26 April 2010 (EDT)
:Yeah, I saw--I was planning on fixing it later. You added the information to the [[:Template:Greyhawk magic item|template]] page instead of making a new page for [[Druniazth]]. Oh, and don't forget to sign your posts (use four tildes: "~")--[[User:Robbastard|Robbastard]] 21:14, 26 April 2010 (EDT)

Wooo-hooo! Thanks rob! [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 22:35, 26 April 2010 (EDT)

Thanks Rob. I wasn't quite finished "playing" with it, but your contributions are always truly appreciated. [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 22:48, 26 April 2010 (EDT)

You included the picture! AWESOME! I've got to learn to do that! Hahahaha! [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 23:24, 26 April 2010 (EDT)

== Rift Canyon ==

Just added Rift Canyon to the wiki, Rob. But I think its ok, starting to remember things. Check it out later for me. Thanks again! I'm back to having fun in the wiki! Hahahahahaha! [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 22:37, 26 April 2010 (EDT)

Rob, I can't seem to get the "box" with the double brackets Catagory thing. Still not getting it right. The entry is simply appearing in red lettering. Embarrassing. [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]]

Dang! I "copied" your "Catagory" from Druniazth and it worked! ?????? [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 23:27, 26 April 2010 (EDT)
*The category names are case-sensitive; you had "Wastelands" capitalized.--[[User:Robbastard|Robbastard]] 23:30, 26 April 2010 (EDT)

Got a picture for the Rift Canyon entry? [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 23:29, 26 April 2010 (EDT)

Rob, the Rift Canyon entry looks AWESOME! In fact, it looks so good, I'm claiming sole credit! Hahahahaha! Just kidding. Man, you make me look good, Thanks very much Rob. [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 10:00, 27 April 2010 (EDT)

== Two New Contributions ==

Rob, I've added the [[Tangles]] and [[Men of the Rift]] to the wiki, whenever you get a chance to go over them. Thanks!  [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 22:06, 27 April 2010 (EDT)

My apologies Rob, don't mean to make more work for you. I'll watch it closer in the future. Incidentally, I just did Reyhu, but my computer hiccupped and I lost the whole thing before I could save the page. I'll attempt it again tomorrow. Getting tired now and that will only increase my mistakes. Thanks again for the coaching.  [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 23:10, 27 April 2010 (EDT)

== Tiggertom ==
Rob, I was just talking to tiggertom on #Greytalk, he's having problems creating an account for the wiki. I told him to contact you through the Great Library forum. He's usually on #Greytalk everyday. Can you give him some help? Thanks!  [[User:Mystic-Scholar|Mystic-Scholar]] 23:31, 27 April 2010 (EDT)
:Actually, he'll want to pm [[Gary Holian]]--his username is PSmedger.--[[User:Robbastard|Robbastard]] 00:04, 28 April 2010 (EDT)

Account Hacked?

Hey there, Rob. I hope you have your settings to recieve an email when there's something on your Talk page! Sorry for contacting you this way ... the system won't let me contact you via email, and I don't have another address or contact method for you. I may try on Canonfire, if we don't get in touch.

If you want to see them, here's your Contributions page on greyparticle.com.

At any rate—Just thought you should be aware, and I thought you might want to change your passwords that you use anywhere, if they may be the same as the one you used for the CF wiki. —Jawal Severnain (talk) 00:09, 6 November 2023 (CST)

Response to Deletion Request

Hey there, Rob!
I wasn't sure if you'd seen that I responded to your message on my Talk page. Also, I installed a {{delete}} template that will nominate any page for deletion, and put it in a Category for subjects of proposals for deletion. Just wanted to check in and let you know we are working on things. --Icarus (talk) 12:24, 14 December 2020 (CST)

Advice with anti-spam settings for wikis

Hi Robbastard,

I've been helping someone get another MediaWiki wiki project off of the ground (one that is not public yet) and was telling them about your brilliant anti-spam policies here. I'm especially impressed with the way that you now have the entire wiki locked to non-editors and force people to use the Canonfire! forum to get an account. If he could do that, he could avoid all the sillyness that I know you and the other editors were reverting and then his team will be able to get the project ready to go live faster.

(I'm so frustrated that Wikia will not allow me to do the same thing with my own wiki - mind you it is now so full of adverts it is virtually unreadable.

Anyhoo, I wonder if you would be able to get me the instructions on how to lock down MediaWiki. My friend has access to a forum on his website, so he should be able to do both the tricks that you have done here.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me (and my friend). Big Mac 19:16, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

  • Your best bet would be to talk to Gary Holian. He really isn't active on the wiki, but you can pm him on the Canonfire boards. His user name is PSmedger.--Robbastard 20:05, 28 June 2011 (EDT)
Thanks for the help! I'll get onto him now.

Amedio Jungle Map

Robbastard,

Just curious, where did you get the GREAT map of the Amedio jungle you uploaded here?

Thanks,

GM

Reckoning of Hell

This user has been going around re-nominating articles which were previously AFD'd, and so far he has been pretty successful, at least in getting them merged instead of kept as articles. However, I am concerned because Reckoning of Hell is closer to getting deleted than the others were. BOZ 08:13, 10 February 2012 (EST)

Infobox Images

I'm pretty indifferent about whether the infobox images are 200 pixels or 250. 250 takes up a lot of visual real estate, but makes for clearer images with more detail, so I can see the pros and cons of both. If I had to choose, I'd go with the 250 pixel standard. -- Rip 19:54, 20 March 2012 (EDT)

Dragon & Dungeon Magazine Images

Kind Regards ^_^, Omega9999

I already have some, but it will take me awhile to get around to it. RL eats into my wiki time greatly. :)--Robbastard (talk) 12:21, 16 November 2014 (EST)

I know, but if you can manage to scan some pages and send them to me, I will do the rest ^_^
