The adventure was written by Jeff Grubb, and appeared in Dungeon's first issue supporting the third edition rules. The adventure also contains suggestions for linking it to "Evil Unearthed" another adventure in the same issue.

Furthermore, no information is given on the exact location of the Lippen Valley within the Flanaess. It is likely that the introduction to "Playing with Fire" mentions the adventure being set in the World of Greyhawk because at the time, Greyhawk was considered the "core world".[2]
