Finnobhar Aodhin is the proprietor of the Star of Celene Inn in the Garden Quarter of Greyhawk City.[1]
Description
Finnobhar is fair skinned with a honey blond mane of hair and a well kept goatee and mustache. His high cheek bones, 5'7" of height, 147 lbs, on a light frame, and slightly pointed ears indicate his elven heritage, but his intense blue eyes, are purely human. He's known to often wear a burgundy tunic, with blue breeches, and a deep green half-cloak. He also derived his nickname "the Dragonstone," from the rare yellow sapphire he wears on a chain.
Finnobhar keeps a room in his inn, and a small office in the Bardschool, where he occasionally teaches. However, he is often away from the city as well, exploring the unique environs of the Flanaess.
Personality
Finnobhar is a gracious host to elves and non-elves alike. But he also is mindful of the special role his Inn plays in elf-human politics within the city, as his inn "features four apartments . . . given gratis to officials visiting from Celene and other elven realms."[1] He is masterful at keeping close the counsel of others. He is also passionate about his travels, and history, tale and song he collects from his journeys and loves to share that information with others.
Abilities
Finnobhar has wide ranging interests including music, poetry, history, culture, and tales of the Flanaess, and, indeed, all of Oerik and Oerth. He is bright and tends to become center of attention and gravitates to leadership positions as indicated by his Int 16, and Cha 18.[1]
Possessions
Finnobhar collects magical instruments and scrolls.[1]. Among his instruments are a Harp of Charming, and Pipes of the Sewers. He additionally has a bastard Sword of Dancing, named "Bloodreel."
Activities
Finnobhar is primarily known as the innkeeper of the Star of Celene Inn.[1] His position in helping official elven visitors to Greyhawk is appreciated by the elven community, a bit of an odd situation for a half-elf. However, the elven princes see him as a valuable bridge to the human domain of Greyhawk, which serves as a connector to the greater human mercantilism and political world of the Flanaess.
Finnobhar also travels broadly across eastern Oerik to chronicle many oddities found therein. Examples of these chronicles can be found in his missives to one Taara, a former student in the Bardschool, with whom he shares his notes on "The Fading Lands" in three parts. (see external link below). Additionally, Finnobhar serves as an intermittent tutor at the Bardschool.
Relationships
While having a good relationship with many people from elven kingdoms and principalities, and with the ruling oligarchs of the city, Finnobhar also has a leaning towards aiding the Knights of Luna.[1] He additionally generally supports the activities of activities of Fioranna Aielestriel [2] who frequently visits the inn to further her aims. [1] Additionally, Finnobhar is on good terms with Pateris the Bard[3], and the High Tutor and Headmaster of the Bardschool, Lactile Furlo.[4] Additionally, he is a friend of the Savant Iquander, but he at times like to cause him some disruption. It is rumored he once had a gilded copy of one of the works of Estarius Rose sent to Iquander on his birthday, supposedly gifted by a minor noble in the court of Celene.[note 1]
History
Finnobhar was originally from Courwood in the Welkwood on the border of the County of Ulek and Celene. He was the child of a lesser noble from Celene and a beautiful, and intelligent, if not terribly important, herbalist in Courwood. Finnobhar traveled extensively as a young adventurer, before troubles after The Hateful Wars brought him back closer to home. Using the flexibility he learned because of his mixed race, and his diplomatic nature bestowed by his Intelligence and Charisma, he soon became a valuable go between for the two courts. In part because of his skill, and in part because of his father's connections, he was eventually recruited to the Knights of Luna although that assignation was kept quiet in order to allow him to more freely serve as a diplomatic go between. He ultimately was sent to Greyhawk City, prior to the Greyhawk Wars to continue to facilitate and provide help to elven dignitaries to the city. He was left free to determine how to do so, and the Inn was his solution to the problem.
