Brewfest, also called Drunken Days or the Feast of Brewers, is the fourth festival week of Oerth's calendar. Brewfest follows Harvester before turning into Patchwall.
It is a rowdy period unsurprisingly claimed as a holy time by the churches of Olidammara and Wenta.[1] The Free City of Greyhawk does not celebrate the entire week, but Brewfest 1 and Brewfest 7 are both set aside as public holidays.[1] In Elmshire, the week is spent in restful, carefree music, drinking, and dancing.[1] In Hardby it is spent with fistfights, riots, and ensuing hangovers.[1] In Narwell it is celebrated with ale-brewing contests, horse races, and athletic competition, but assault and robbery are more common.[1] In Safeton it is celebrated with nervous violence and nightly orc hunts.[1]
The week is also sacred to the Old Faith.
In elven culture, Fallrite is celbrated in the same week as Brewfest. They contemplate the spirits of their ancestors, the passage to the afterworld, and the fragility of life. They believe other races make merry during Brewfest because they are "hiding" to avoid facing death's reality. In contrast, olvenfolk strive to fulfill the most important of their duties and reach the most crucial of their decisions during this time of year. Elven kings and queens traditionally judge capital cases during Fallrite.
Holidays and celebrations
The Autumnal equinox occurs on Godsday, Brewfest 4.[2]. The entirety of Brewfest is holy to Wenta and she encourages drinking and revelry rather than prayer.[3] The week also includes a very intense beverage competition hosted by the Greyhawk Guild of Ostlers and Brewers. The Tocsin of Kelanen is also celebrated during Brewfest.
Xvarts' second fertility rite of the year, Raxivort's Orgy, also takes place on Brewfest 4.[4]
