This Template is used for directly quoting the text of official sources. When quoting the words of a real-life person, use Template:Quote instead.
While short quotations may be given with simple quotation marks and inline citation, longer quotes (more than a phrase or sentence or two) should use this template.
Extended quotes should be reformatted to be summarized and given a citation without directly quoting long passages of copyrighted material.
Usage
There is no need to place extra line-breaks before or after the quote.
The basic implementation of this template:
{{quoted text|Quoted passage goes here.|citation}}
If paragraphs need to be separated with formatting, add </p> to the end of a line where a paragraph break should occur.
Footnote citations must be given in a "citation" parameter, separated by a pipe ( | ) in normal format, using either the {{csb}} template or HTML <ref> tags.
Note that though all these display the same information, they stack separately in the References section. All citations should be internally consistent (using the same format) within a single article), so that they stack and group properly. Don't use different citation styles on the same page.
Such as:
{{quoted text|Quoted passage goes here.| {{csb|LGG|123}} }}
{{quoted text|Quoted passage goes here.| {{csb|Living Greyhawk Gazetteer|123}} }}
{{quoted text|Quoted passage goes here.| {{cite sourcebook|Living Greyhawk Gazetteer|123}} }}
{{quoted text|Quoted passage goes here.| <ref>''[[Living Greyhawk Gazetteer]] (2000)'', p.123.</ref> }}
Which display as:
"Quoted passage goes here."[1]
"Quoted passage goes here."[2]
"Quoted passage goes here."[2]
"Quoted passage goes here."[3]
- ↑ Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (2000), p.123.
- ↑ a b Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (2000), p.123.
- ↑ Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (2000), p.123.
Inline citations may be added within the quoted text:
{{quoted text|The Flanaess is particularly blessed in regard to its weather.—WoG folio (1980), p.5}}
"The Flanaess is particularly blessed in regard to its weather.—WoG folio (1980), p.5"
