Hexpools is a city in the former South Province of the Great Kingdom, and later in Ahlissa.

History

Hexpools and its pools were built c.286 CY, with the pools being designed and enchanted by the wizard Farlockend, statues of whom dot the city.[1]

Geography

The city lies in the southwest of the Principality of Ahlissa, near the border between the United Kingdom of Ahlisssa and Sunndi, about one hundred fifty miles northeast of the terminus of the Iron Hills and near the foothills of the northern terminus of the Hollow Highlands. It is situated on the banks of the Grayflood River, whose headwaters are formed from water flowing from the hexpools themselves.[1]

Cityscape

The city is named for the six hexagonal limestone pools built in a ring around the outside of the city. The hexpools power the city's mills and can be used to create high-powered streams of water to defend the city which can devastate a besieging army. Each pool is roughly a hundred feet across, thirty feet deep, and has walls ten feet high. The pools are filled by water magically drawn upward from underground aquifers.[1]

Just inside the hexpools is a thirty-foot-tall limestone wall surrounding the city.

Notable individuals

The most notable person by far in the city's history is Farlockend, the wizard who built the hexpools. He is regarded as a local hero, bordering on saint. His statues are all over the city, and whenever anyone mentions his name, they add "blessings on him!".[1]

Religion

Government

The city is run by a hereditary aristocratic council made up of decedents of Farlockend. Those within the city are hesitant to question this, even in the face of ineptitude, for fear of the magic of the hexpools ceasing to function as intended.[1]
