Idee, previously properly known as the County of Idee, was a political state in the eastern Flanaess, and a member of the Iron League. It is now part of the United Kingdom of Ahlissa, being known as the Principality of Naerie.[1]
History
The lands that became Idee were presumably settled by the Suel and then the Oeridians during the Great Migrations, given the mix of humans now living there. Whether any Flan lived there prior is unclear.
When the South Province of the Great Kingdom rose in revolt against the Overking in 477 CY, Idee was in the forefront.[2]
Idee fell to the Scarlet Brotherhood during the Greyhawk Wars and its population was enslaved.[3][4] In 584 CY, Ahlissan forces drove the Brotherhood out of Idee. The land became the Principality of Naerie, a fief of the new United Kingdom of Ahlissa.
Geography
Idee was located on the eastern coast of the Azure Sea, with Irongate to the north west, the Iron Hills to the north, Sunndi to the east with the border along the Hollow Highlands and Menowood to the south.
People
Population
The population in 576 CY was 60,000+, with the population of the then capital Naerie 4,900.[2]
The population was mainly human with a roughly equal mix of Oeridian and Suel[5], but also featured elves, dwarves, gnomes and halflings.[6]
Religion
Popular deities include those of the Oeridian and Suel pantheons, as well as demi-humans residing in Idee.
Languages
The primary language spoken in Idee is Common.[7]
When a member of the Iron League, officials would have spoken Ferral, a now secret Oeridian tribal language used for command and identification purposes and not an active language.[8]
Government
In 576 CY Idee was ruled by His Brilliant Lordhsip, Count Fedorik Eddri (Fighter14[9]) of Idee[2] The national capital was Naerie.
In 591 CY the Principality of Naerie was ruled by Prince Barzhaan of House Haxx.[1]
Economy
Resources
Idee is noted for producing foodstuffs, copper and gold.[2][10]
Trade
In 576 CY Idee carried on a brisk trade via the sea lanes with Onnwal and Nyrond.[2]
By 591 CY with Idee becoming part of Ahlissa, trade had prospered under the influence of the Royal Guild of Merchants of Aerdy, and old Ideean fortresses were rebuilt to defend against the Scarlet Brotherhood. On the orders of Overking Xavener, a new fleet of ships was being built in Naerie (old Idee) to ward the seas and increase trade and ties with nations opposing the Scarlet Brotherhood.[11]
Military
In 576 CY the Count maintained a standing army to man and support a chain of castles and fortresses to guard the northern frontier against the Great Kingdom to whom Idee was open to attack by. Militia contingents also stood ready to muster on urgent notice.[2]
By 591 CY Ahlissan troops kept a close watch on the southern border for any renewed Scarlet Brotherhood threat. Old Ideean fortresses were being rebuilt. A new fleet of military ships was being constructed in Naerie (old Idee) to build Ahlissa’s presence on the Azure Sea. Idee was in the forefront of Ahlissa's defence against the Brotherhood.[12]
