Tysiln San is an exiled drow female, who serves the Black One as First Protector of the Valley of the Mage.
Description
Tysiln is a beauty, even among dark elves. She has many of the typical features of her ethnicity—dark skin, slender features and white hair and eyebrows. She keeps her hair long and straight. Somewhat unusual for a dark elf are her wide, yellow eyes.[3]
Relationships
Prior to meeting the Mage of the Vale, Tysiln avoided getting too close to others as a result of past experiences.[1]
Tysiln is exceedingly devoted to the Mage of the Vale, Jaran Krimeeah. As First Protector, she associates with the leaders of the various races in the Vale and they have accepted her because Jaran has accepted her, but they are not her friends.[1]
History
Tysiln San was born in Erelhei-Cinlu to a wealthy merchant family. She was very loyal to them and joined their attempted coup to overthrow the priestesses of Lolth by using her training as a conjurer. The coup failed and she was forced to flee, leaving behind her family, but she has no desire to return to the Vault. Fortunately for her, a mage from the surface was visiting the vault and took her under his protection and they returned to the surface.[1][2][3]
For the next decade they became friends, and she worked with the mage on magical experiments to repay her debt and his gift of a pair of mirrored and glassteeled lenses that allowed her to see normally in daylight. Unfortunately, a gate spell they were working on went awry and the mage was killed by the death slaad that was summoned instead of the modron they were attempting to summon. Tysiln was only able to escape the same fate by levitating away from the creature.[3]
Tysiln made her way, alone, to a halfling community, where she cast spells in exchange for the necessities like food, clothing and shelter. After a time, she felt herself becoming too attached to the small folk and left them behind before the disasters that seemed to follow her occurred again. With her new familiar, Inez the raven, she wandered the surface world again. They wound up in the Dim Forest in the Valley of the Mage thinking it was secluded and there would be no one to get too attached to. She soon found out that she was wrong and was taken captive by the valley elves who served the Mage of the Vale, Jaran Krimeeah.[1]
Surprisingly, when she was brought before the Exalted One, as the elves called him, she was smitten by the mage and immediately declared her loyalty to him. Being a shrewd leader, he saw the value he could get out a magic-using drow with no real fealty to anyone else. After several tests, Tysiln proved her loyalty and her love, so the mage rewarded her with the title of First Protector of the valley and also became her lover. The two of them have worked closely together ever since on not only protecting the vale but on numerous arcane experiments and quests to obtain magical items and spells.[1][4]
Creations
Tysiln and Jaran worked on several items and spells together. Of note are the following:
- Exalted Dweomercraft—a tome of magical spells[5]
- Tysiln's Wonderous Carriage—a spell which creates a magical vehicle of force[5]
