Description
The Chat' An Monastery, also known as the Flannae-tel Monastery, is home to Zuoken monks, known for their Baklunish customs, exotic weaponry, and pursuit of balance. Led by Master Li Hon, who is friendly with Duke Karll Lorinar and Warnes Starcoat, the monastery remains politically neutral and shrouded in mystery, with most people knowing it only through rumors.[1]
History
The Chat' An Monastery was established in the Cairn Hills founded in 517 CY.
Geography
Chat' An Monastery is a secluded establishment in the Cairn Hills, two days travel north of the ruins of Maure Castle and west of Castle Blarco.
People
The monks of the Chat’ An Monastery follow strict dietary rules, avoiding "gut" meat and alcohol while prioritizing green vegetables per Jat Won's teachings. They wear loose, flexible clothing for ease of movement, though no specific attire is required.
The Three Paths
Jat Won, a revered monk-sage, inspired the founding of the Chat’ An Monastery. Initiates pursue one of three paths—Mind, Body, or Soul—to master a specific aspect of themselves. True enlightenment is achieved through mastery of all three, attaining True Balance.
Ranks
Each path consists of three ranks: Novice, Adept, and Master. In each of the Paths, the titles of the ranks differ to reflect the different aspects of enlightenment taught within.
| Path | Spirits | Novice Title | Adept Title | Master Title |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mind | Cat & Fox | Hissing Bite | Swift Paw | Cunning Thief |
| Body | Bull & Bear | Growling Maw | Rending Tusk | Thundering Charge |
| Soul | Owl & Eagle | Screeching Dive | Piercing Talon | Graceful Wing |
The Path of the Mind
The Path of the Mind, or Spirit of Cat and Fox, emphasizes the unity of quick thought and swift action. Its ranks are Hissing Bite, Swift Paw, and Cunning Thief, and it is favored by monks with high Dexterity and Intelligence.
The Path of the Body
The Path of the Body, or Spirit of Bull and Bear, teaches mastery of the body to control one's ki. Its ranks are Growling Maw, Rending Tusk, and Thundering Charge, attracting monks with high Strength and Constitution.
The Path of the Soul
The Path of the Soul, or Spirit of Owl and Eagle, focuses on self-understanding through observing others. Its ranks are Screeching Dive, Piercing Talon, and Graceful Wing, attracting monks with high Wisdom and Charisma.
