The Village of Nulb
General information
Realm:Verbobonc, Gnarley Forest, Flanaess
Size:Village

The village of Nulb is an abandoned village near the Temple of Elemental Evil.

Geography

Situated on the edge of the Gnarley Forest, on the High Road between Hommlet and Sobanwych, Nulb is just inside the borders of the Viscounty of Verbobonc. The only ford of Imeryds Run is at Nulb.[1]

History

Nulb developed as a village with the building of the Temple in the mid to late 560s CY.

The village was filthy, ramshackle, and still fairly active between 569 CY and 579 CY despite the (essential) destruction of the Temple in 569 CY. The buildings were of turf, mud brick, crudely hewn logs, and old timbers from boats. One or two had stone foundations and proper boards, but even these needed repairs. The inhabitants of the village were boatmen, fishers, herdsmen, farmers, and the like. It was apparent that no one managed to make much of a living in Nulb (at least an honest one), and as it was such a poor place, lords and bandits alike generally ignored it.

A small amount of commerce moved along the High or Old Road from Hommlet, as well as into Nulb from the Velverdyva, as Imeryds Run is wide and deep enough for small river vessels to use for offloading cargo and likewise embarking it from Nulb, north of the ford there. Most travelers preferred to take the longer, and safer route, along the New or Low Road from Hommlet.

In 579 CY the village was supporting two river pirate vessels, and the Temple was being rebuilt. Agents from Hommlet were monitoring the Temple from Nulb, masquerading as inhabitants.

Following the destruction of the Temple properly in 579 CY, the village was abandoned and by 589 CY (with the events of Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil), the village was only inhabited by a scarred Lareth.

In Legends of Greyhawk

In the Legends of Greyhawk campaign, Nulb and the "historical" events surrounding it were used in the LoG preview adventures prior to GenCon 2025 (July 31—August 3, 2025). The adventures take place in the autumn of 576 CY, when Nulb is a gathering place for bandits and pirates [2], with some manner of order imposed by an individual called the Pirate-Queen and a group of enforcers. The viscounty Verbobonc have sent spies to keep track on what is going on.[3]

People

Notable individuals

The following NPCs appear in the LoG preview adventures taking place in the autumn of 576 CY:

  • The Pirate-Queen (female elf)—leader of bandits and in control of Nulb.[3]
  • "Auntie" (female dwarf)—enforcer working with the Pirate-Queen to keep order in Nulb. [3]
  • Rezzalyn (female gnome)—spy sent by Artunok on behalf of the viscounty. She is supported by an old local female gnome seamstress.

Notable organizations
