The Wild Coast refers to a large coastal stretch of land on the western shore of Woolly Bay.
History
The Wild Coast has essentially been a collection of six major city-states for most of its history, and has long held a reputation for being untamed.
Those city-states were (from north to south):
- The Territory of Narwell.
- The Holdings of Safeton.
- The Lands of Cantona.
- The State of Fax.
- The Lands of Badwall.
- The Free City of Elredd.
Prior to the Greyhawk Wars, each city-state controlled its own affairs. However, things changed once Turrosh Mak gained control of the Pomarj establishing the Orcish Empire of the Pomarj in about about 584 CY. In 584 CY Mak's forces marched north, taking the towns of Elredd, Badwall, Fax and Cantona, thus conquering the entire southern Wild Coast. Mak's forces were only stopped at the Battle of Celene Pass.[1] The remaining towns of Safeton and Narwell survived by swearing fealty to Greyhawk, resulting in the northern Wild Coast being absorbed into the Free City's Domain.
Geography
The Wild Coast is bordered by the Suss Forest to the south, the Welkwood to the west, the Gnarley Forest to the north, and Woolly Bay to the east.
Other locations on the Wild Coast include Nol-Daer and Newtemple.
In Dragon Magazine #90, two fiefdoms mentioned nowhere else are referred to in an article called "Playing the Political Game." These are the domain of Luxor and, sandwiched between Luxor and the Suss Forest, the smaller domain of Karmagia.

Heraldry
Due to the independent nature of the Wild Coast, no one standard has been adopted as representative of the entire region. However, the various city-states have traditionally carried their own devices:
- Badwall: Argent, in pile three lozenges gules
- Elredd: Lozengy or and vert
- Fax: Argent, three lozenges gules
- Narwell: Barry of eight, azure and argent
- Safeton: Vair, a canton paly of six sable and or

In the Legends of Greyhawk campaign, set in 576 CY, the West Coast Adventurer's Guild (WCAG) runs organzied play events at conventions. One of the two regions they produce adventures set in, is the Wild Coast.[2]—the region is premiering at LA ComicCon, 26 September 2025. From 596-598 CY the Domain of Greyhawk and the Principality of Ulek were in a complete state of war with the Pomarj. The Principality mounted major offenses and were able to reclaim most of the disputed territory the Pomarj had taken.
Then, however, talks began in secret in 598 CY between Turrosh Mak and Lord Mayor Nerof Gasgal to end the war. The treaty would have also incidentally established a new nation to be called the Jebli Free State (a goblin nation) as a "buffer zone" on the Wild Coast between the Domain and the Pomarj.[4]
It is widely believed those treaty negotiations were the impetus or trigger which led Turin Deathstalker to assassinate Lord Mayor Gasgal in 598 CY.[4]
