The choke creeper, also called strangle vines[1] or strangler vine,[2][3] is a carnivorous plant found in woodlands in tempaerate regions of the Flanaess.

Ecology

The choke creeeper "seems to be a cousin of the hangman tree."[3]

Note: the similar "strangleweed" is also a vine, but is not the same as strangle vines.

Typical physical appearance

These plants are a long, very thick vine with smaller, branching vines snaking off the main body. The vine is olive green in color, and the plant stem is as thick as some tree trunks.[2][3] (12"-24")[4] Choke creepers have a branching vine every two to three feet. The smallest vines may only be 20' long, whilst the largest may be up to 160'.[3]

Vines are attracted to light, heat[2][3][4] and movement[2] Some choke creepers are attacted to the strongest light source first.[1]

Abilities

Much like other dangerous or carnivorous plants, choke creepes look like "normal vegetation and can usually grab unsuspecting victims."[2][3][4]

The choke creeper can move very slowly—less than 5'/round. The branching vines are incredibly dextrous and nimble, allowing it to pull itself along, but only 15' per minute.[2][3]

The larger a choke creeper is, it's vines become thicker and more hearty. When one of the choke creeper's branching vines can be damaged, and even entirely severed, without affecting the trunk/body of the creeper. The vines can advance slowly, creeping toward victims (5'/round).

Small, non-magical fires (such as torchs) to not affect choke creepers, but larger, hotter fires can, and the choke creeper will attempt to move away from them.[4] Cold attacks can stun a choke creeper, but electrical attacks can enervate them, causing it to move extremely fast (double movement) while not damaging it.[1][2][3][4]
