The County of Ulek, properly known as the County Palatine of Ulek, is a political state of the Flanaess, and one of the three Ulek States (the other two being the Duchy of Ulek, and the Principality of Ulek).
History
Approximately 323 years before the dawn of the Common Year calendar, Immris of the Suloise house of Rhola founded a city, and later a state, called Jurnre; this was the city that remains its capital to this day. This state became absorbed into what is now the County of Ulek.
In 400-500 OR (-245 to -145 CY), the early rulers of Ulek built castles in their territory and fought the Goblin War in which their armies forced the goblins and orcs back into the Lortmil Mountains.
Sometime between 500 and 600 OR (-145 to -45 CY), one Count Cartair, one of the most beloved of the County of Ulek's rulers, ruled the County of Ulek in a time of strife between the three Ulek States, and fortifications were evidently constructed along the Kewl River and Old River. Between 55 CY and 155 CY, the Ulek States were strong allies of one another but overshadowed by the growing kingdoms of Keoland and Aerdy.
The County of Ulek was incorporated peacefully into the kingdom of Keoland in 292 CY. Around 361 CY, at the height of Keoland's imperial conquests, the County of Ulek expelled Keoland's royal garrisons, although this was accomplished without bloodshed (enchantment magic was employed, however). Keoland did not formally recognize the County's independence until approximately a century after the fact, at about the time the Principality of Ulek withdrew from the union.
The Hateful Wars embroiled the County of Ulek as well as the other Ulek States. Jurnre was besieged by refugee goblins and orcs at this time, though it did not fall. The druids of Ulek used their healing skills to assist their allies, while the County as a whole provided food and raw materials, primarily to the Principality of Ulek.
