Velvet Empire

The Velvet Empire encompasses just 8,000 square miles, centered on Ophioverdaurare, which is inhabited by around 500 elves – about half of which are warriors. It continues to maintain close, though underground, contact with the 2,500 humans who continue to thrive, virtually independently, in Greenreach.

At its height, it covered nearly 65,000 square miles of the northern Vesve between the Clatspurs to the west and the Dulsi River to the east. At that time, its capital was situated at Waterwall, a 100-foot tall waterfall that in a time before memory had been magically induced to flow upward on a minor tributary of the Deepstil River.

Greenreach – built on the Dulsi at the extreme eastern reach of the Empire became the most important fortified river trading post, doing business with the elves, the Wolf Nomads to north, and the Kingdom of Furyondy to the south. It was populated by a mixed band of human rebels – Bedouins who wanted to leave their nomadic lifestyle behind for a more secure, though sedentary existence, and Furyondians who wanted to ditch the humdrum and live life a bit more on the rough and wild side. Both achieved their dream, and for a while, Greenreach prospered.
