Thrommel III was a king of Furyondy.
History
In 927 OR (283 CY), Thrommel III made the decision to move the capital of Furyondy from from Dyvers to Chendl. Chendl was created from scratch to serve as a new capital, and took its name from an earlier city named Chendl which was located near the current Crockport. The city's construction took five years, and the move was completed in 288 CY.[1]
Notes
Thrommel III is only mentioned in WG8 Fate of Istus, and may be erroneous.
According to the original box set, Thrommel I was crowned ruler of Furyondy in 254 CY, while Thrommel II ruled during the secession of Dyvers in 526 CY. This casts doubt on Fate of Istus' claim that Thrommel III ruled in 283 CY, assuming that Furyondy's kings are numbered in chronological order.
Living Greyhawk Gazetteer p.41 suggests that it was Thrommel I who first drew up plans for a new capital shortly after his coronation, rather than Thrommel III and 29 years later. All sources agree that Chendl was completed and made the official capital no later than 288 CY (i.e. 34 years after coronation). Further, The Adventure Begins has Thrommel I continue his reign at least until either 261 or 277 CY.
However, inconsistent ruler numbering systems are not without precedent in the real world. For example, James II of England was known as James VII in Scotland, as that country had previous kings named James. Also in Scotland, postboxes built during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II omit the mark "EIIR" owing to vandalism by Scottish citizens who refuse that designation, as Queen Elizabeth I of England was never ruler of Scotland. In that regard, it is possible to speculate that Thrommel III is an alias for Thrommel I.
