Pentival is an ancient paladin who became a saint of Pelor before being captured by Acererak.[1]
History
Sir Pentival was a rising servant of Pelor during Acererak's time as a living man. The two foes clashed, and in the end Acererak was forced to flee or be slain.[1]
Long did Acererak brood upon his defeat. In the twilight of Pentival's life, the paladin became a saint in Pelor's church, and it seemed he was destined to become a hero-deity as well. Then did Acererak use one of the towers of Moil to create a prison for his old enemy. After extensive preparation, he captured the paladin and trapped him within this Sundered Tower, shielded from divinations and kept drifting in the Negative Energy Plane where he could be tortured at Acererak's leisure. After a time, even deathless Acererak grew bored with this sadism. He created a simulacrum of himself and delegated the task to it, moving to other tasks.[1] Saint Pentival's subsequent fate is unknown (in the official adventure text). However, the author, Stephen S. Greer, stated that though the content wasn't in the adventure for space reasons, Saint Pentival was long since dead by the time adventurers arrive.[2] Though that does leave the possibility that it was only his mortal body that died and he became a divine saint.

I was going to add his body in the Cadaver Chamber (area 13) and write up a sidebar about how using speak with dead might reveal some clues, but I was so beyond my word count (thanks to Delve Format) by the final version that I didn't do it. Anyway, that's where his body would be if you want to follow through with that hook. You can add any important stuff you want the PCs to get from him as described in one of the adventure hooks in Acererak's lair (the dungeon level)."
