"Evil Unearthed" takes place in and around Brookhollow, a hamlet on the Slipper River. Though "Evil Unearthed" contains references to Heironeous and Hextor, and the introduction states that it is set in Greyhawk, no other Greyhawk references are found. Furthermore, no information is given on the exact location of Brookhollow and other setting elements within the Flanaess. It is likely that the few Greyhawk references found in "Evil Unearthed" are merely due to Greyhawks role as the "default setting" in early 3rd Edition.
"Evil Unearthed contains references to Heironeous and Hextor, but these were common deities of third edition and were often in adventures not set in Greyhawk.

"Evil Unearthed" is a 3rd Edition adventure appearing in Dungeon #82 (September/October, 2000). The adventure was written by Ed Stark, and appeared in Dungeon's first issue supporting the 3rd Edition rules. The adventure also contains suggestions for linking it to "Playing with Fire" another adventure in the same issue.

Setting

The introduction of "Evil Unearthed" states that it is nominally "set the Greyhawk campaign setting"[1] and takes place in and around Brookhollow, a hamlet on the Slipper River, though these features are not otherwise known in the Flanaess. Other important locations in the adventure include a nearby forest known as the Gnollwood, a barren region named the Waste, and Castle Overlook, a ruined fortress. No other Greyhawk geographical references are found. Furthermore, no information is given regarding where Brookhollow and other adventure elements are situated in the Flanaess.

The use of the name "Castle Overlook" for the ruins in the adventure is another fact which lends this adventure to being referred to as apocryphal. That name is also used to refer to the citadel at Pellak,[2] the capital of Bissel, which obviously is not in ruins, at all. Confusing the matter further, the capitol is also referred to other official sources as "Castle Oversight".[3][4] It is unknown if the site was rebuilt as were many others c.591 CY,[note 1] or if a new castle was given the name of its predecessor.

"Evil Unearthed contains references to Heironeous and Hextor, but these were common deities of third edition and were often in adventures not set in Greyhawk.
