Crystal Springs are a set of natural springs in the north of the Kingdom of Nyrond.
Description
Crystal Springs is a set of natural springs covering an area of about fifteen square miles or so, where the water flows from a series of small rocky outcrops. They are the source of the Duntide River, and located astride the Stone Road. Water from subterranean aquifers bubbles to the surface here. The rock formations of almost glassy blue-veined quartz around the springs tend to be brittle, with the rock is of little use although it is weather resistant and resists erosion. This strange geological formation is believed to have magical origins, and mixed intermittent and erratic dweomers that vary with the phases of the moons (Celene and Luna) can be detected here. A subterranean network of caves and chambers below the rock formations are rumored to contain monstrous and magical secrets in their calcified chambers. There are several militia bases with 60-200 soldiers within five miles of the springs.[1]
In Spring 591 CY a raiding party of dark dwarves came to the surface from the so-called Crystal Caves beneath the springs. A wizard in Dosselford in the County of Urnst recruited adventurers who were successful in thwarting them, and discovered a passage to the underworld beneath the springs.[2]
