The Rent is a mine and associated fortified mansion house in the Kingdom of Nyrond.
Description
The Rent is a geological fault which gives the area its name. The surrounds include a coal mine skirting the fault, which makes work here very hazardous, and a fortified mansion house of the local ruler Sir Pierell Dempstren. He maintains a powerful 50-strong militia, which is used to keep strangers away from the mine. The land for 5 miles around the mine is fenced off and posted with signs reading, "Keep Out! Trespassers will be Impaled." In Spring 585 CY Sir Pierell ensured to paid all taxes and tithes due to King Archbold III and avoided any attention being paid to operations at The Rent.[1]

- His cousin, a priest of recently escaped from the Great Kingdom during the late stages of the Greyhawk Wars.
In the Living Greyhawk Campaign
The organizing Triad for the Nyrond region created maps of Nyrond showing the borders of various provinces, including that The Rent fell within the Duchy of Korenflass.
In the Living Greyhawk campaign, The Rent was the subject of the Nyrond region adventure set in 596 CY "The Rent is Due" in which adventurers found out what was going on at the mine and the history of the Dempstren family. It was also detailed in the "Nyrond Gazetteer" fan-created sourcebook.[2]
