Arndulanth is a town in the north east of the Kingdom of Nyrond.
Geography
Arndulanth is located of the edge of the Flinty Hills, and the Gamboge Forest.[1]
History
Arndulanth was traditionally virtually a free town, being a market for Gamboge Forest goods and mine output in the wooded part of the hills. However, this changed after the Greyhawk Wars ended in 584 CY. The local leader of the Knights Valorous (part of the Valorous League of Blindness), Carindrell, denounced the wickedness of nearby Womtham, King Archbold III as a weak leader who failed to defend his people, and Nyrond's generals as incompetent. A visit by General Basmajenn on the way to the northern front during the war confirmed him as a pompous fool. Carindrell also claimed the Gamboge and Flinty Hills folk kept Nyrond alive with their produce for nothing in return. He promoted autonomy for the region, and under his leadership the members of the Valorous League ran refugees out of town or were forced into civil works, and watched markets for thieves and cheats. The town's Mayor was unable to oppose Carindrell due to his popularity. This was bolstered by stunts such as he and a dozen Knights Valorous marching off into the Flinty Hills and returning with the corpse of a Nalfeshnee (a horrifying fiend), followed by a speech in the marketplace that such fiends would stalk the hills and forests unless people turned to the One True Path of the Church of Pholtus which garnered support.[1]
People
Population
Townspeople are known as Arndulants.[1] Under the influence of Carindrell and the Knights Valorous demi-humans were made to feel unwlecome and tended to avoid the town.[2]
In 585 CY the population was 2,000.[1] By 591 CY the population was 2,300.[3]
