Darkwood is a rare, magical wood as hard as normal lumber but very light. When available, it is commonly used to make bows, arrows, and spears.[1] It is still as hard as any other mundane wood.[2] It is also used decoratively for items like a scrolltube,[3] musical instrument,[4] throne[5], carriage,[6], or even a "life-size darkwood cat sculpture with yellow topaz eyes."[4] However, this does not change an items weight, unless it is made primarily of the wood.

It can be cut and treated with oil to preserve it; darkwood can be kept thus, up to 9 weeks.[7] It must be crafted before that time, or it begins to rot.[7]

Darkleaf armor is made from darkwood and alchemically treated and beautifully carved pieces of darkwood.[8]

Darkwood should not be confused with the similarly-named ebonwood.
