History

Mathew was the representative of the diocese of Grayington to the Celestial Order of the Moons in 591 CY, and until 594 CY.

The Sarneth family tradition was the eldest son (not daughter it would appear) took the role of Plar on “coming of age” at 24.[3] when regarded as old enough to rule properly[4] Plar Eldried's son, Redin, reached the age of 24 in the fall of 593 CY[3][5] but Eldried did not step aside, with that not occurring until certain events in 594 CY.[6]

Eldried was reluctant to hand over the Plarship to Redin when due in Fall 593 CY.[7] as he was more focused on religious matters than administration of the diocese[8] However, apparent financial irregularities in the diocese’s tax affairs became apparent in 594 CY[9] that led to Redin demanding Eldried abdicate in his favor[10] in Spring 594 CY[11] rather than cause scandal.

Soon after Veluna was invaded by the forces of “the One”, the lich and former Canon Herion, and Canon Hazen was killed in 594 CY at the Battle of Whitehale with the Crook of Rao being lost.[12] The forces of Grayington were held back by Plar Redin to defend their own diocese, and even withdrawn from protecting Veluna City.[13]

Redin sought the position of Canon of Veluna after the death of Canon Hazen.[14] This was opposed by Mathew [11] on the basis he was too young and naive.

Mathew was assassinated (by Nerull cultists) in 594 CY,[15] which removed him from opposing Redin's nomination and which Eldried speculated may have been related.[16]

Priffin Truft was elected Canon,[17] resulting in Redin seceding Grayington from Veluna following his “visions” from Rao.[18]
