Resources

The main thing of value from the cauldron, and the reason so many seek it, is the ebony stone that surrounds the central depression. The stone can be used to craft very powerful but inevitably cursed magical artifacts.

Rumors & legends

It is said that the cauldron is near sentient, and chooses who is able to take stone from the spine like stalactites to use in the making of magical artifacts. Those who the Cauldron rejects, who are often powerful and accomplished mages, are reported to freeze down to their very marrow and shatter into dust. Anyone who does succeed in getting a piece for their creation inevitably face a high cost, driven mad by their own creations or dragged off into the Abyss.
