Justine Mara Andersen is an American artist, illustrator, animator, and poet, whose work has appeared in role-playing games and comic books.
Biography
"I am most proud of my adult fairy tale "Mara." I began the project twelve years ago as a comic book but have recently moved on to creating my Mara books as lavishly illustrated prose. Mara is difficult to describe, imagine if Disney had collaborated with De Sade! I am quite pleased that Mara's most hardcore fans are women! It shows that my heart is in the right place with the project. There are three Mara collections available now, and a fourth on the way. ... I always felt cheated by the "erotica" and "exploitation" I read or watched, and decided it was high time somebody did it right."
—Justine M. Andersen, Pen & Paper RPG Database, July 2009
Andersen has referred to herself as "Barefoot Justine" because she does not wear shoes, at all.
Career
She took a break from art for two years, during which she taught English in South Korea and South America, before returning to drawing after the death of Jeff Catherine Jones to whom she'd been close.[1]
Andersen is an illustrator for Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, and has a personal website.[2]
Works
Perhaps most notably within the context of the World of Greyhawk, Andersen is noted for illustrations of holy symbols she created for many of the Greyhawk deities. She also is notable for her contributions to the D&D Gazetteer (2000), which defines the World of Greyhawk™ as the core world for third edition.
