Monmurg is the capital of the realm the Sea Princes, but has been under the rule of the Scarlet Brotherhood since 584 CY.
History
Once a Keoish city, Monmurg was conquered in 446 CY by the Sea Princes, a confederacy of Azure Sea and Jeklea Bay pirates who had named themselves after the Sea Prince, the vessel of a successful Keoish pirate captain of noble blood.
In 584 CY, Monmurg fell to the Scarlet Brotherhood during the Greyhawk Wars, and remains under Brotherhood control.
During the summer heat of 589 CY, the discovery of an ancient temple in the Hellfurnaces, close to the Sea of Dust, instilled a powerful religious fervor among many of the inhabitants the Hold of the Sea Princes, slaves and Brotherhood masters alike. The temple's discovery initiated a schism among the western Brotherhood and their counterparts in Monmurg, which resulted in the Hold's Brotherhood leaders engaging one another in a brief war of assassination. Several of the Brotherhood's junior members, who were allied with the westerners, announced themselves as the Black Brotherhood, devotees of entropy. This group initiated an armed revolt in Monmurg, leading savage Hemonaland troops through the capital's streets. The rebellion was crushed within the day, but the hierarchy of the Hold's Scarlet masters was not left unscathed, for the cry of rebellion spread throughout the land, resulting in a nation divided.
People
One person of note within the city is Marmel Raveiz, quartermaster of the thieves' guild in Monmurg. Marmel began his career as a magician's apprentice in Furyondy. His master participated in a failed expedition against the Sea Princes and Marmel used the opportunity to start a new life.
Population
In 591 CY, the population of Monmurg stands at 15,000 persons.
