The Mace and Talisman of Krevell are magical artifacts found in the former Great Kingdom in the hands of the evil rulers of Rinloru and Winetha..
Description
The Mace and Talisman of Krevell, who was a priest of Nerull, consists of two linked items—a weapon and a pendant.
"... an infinitesimally thin strand of magical energy has come to link the Twin Cities. Some unique magical resonance links the artifacts and spellcasters, and this straight line of magical energy can be seen easily with a detect magic spell. The link has no magical effects, nor can it be dispelled; it is simply there. Mordenkainen believes that the strange coupling of artifacts and powerful spellcasters will generate an uncontrollable magical force which will ultimately result in a massive Mordenkainen's disjunction which will have decimating effects on the two men and their magical possessions and possibly create magic-dead areas around the Twin Cities."[1]"
Powers
Though they are separate, individual items and have magical properties of their own, when brought together they manifest those powers more strongly and have other more extremely powerful effects.
The Mace is a mace +4. It can cast animate dead once daily, and energy drain thrice weekly. The Talisman may cause paralysis within 20' once daily.
When the artifacts are together, the above powers may be used seven times as often. They also have the following powers when used by the same wielder:
- At-will
- wraithform
- command undead as a 20th-level priest, with double effectiveness
- Weekly
- destruction
- gate (only to Nerull's domain)
- unholy word
- symbol of death
- Monthly
- gate caster and up to 10 others to the Negative Material Plane without ill-effect
History
The Mace and the Talisman were brought to the Flanaess by Oeridians centuries ago. The Talisman ended up with Prince Lakaster Torquann of Winetha, while the Mace ended up with Delglath the , leader of Rinloru. The two leaders are locked in an uneasy truce as they negotiate to reunite both the Mace and the Talisman, as well as the Helm and Wand of Lynerden the Spinner, another two-part magical artifact owned separately by the two lords.
Publication history
Excerpts of the manuscript from Ivid the Undying were originally published in Dragon magazine. Issue #204 (Apr 1994) contained the section about the "Twin Cities" of Rinloru and Winetha, which has the Mace and Talisman in it. The full manuscript was later published as the first ever official online supplement published for D&D (1995).
