This is a listing of Material Plane settlements found within the World of Greyhawk campaign setting, including cities, villages, hamlets, thorps, towns, and similar settlements. Category:Fortifications is used for similar places which are primarily a fort, castle, outpost, keep, tower, or other stronghold which typically do not have other associated residences, buildings or businesses. In some rare instances, both may be used for separate articles, such as Blackwall Keep and Blackwall Keep (hamlet).
In the earliest editions, the sizes of settlements aren't categorized by mechanics and terms are used very loosely. In 2000 and after—third and later editions—villages, towns, and cities became much more delineated. The terms are specifically defined in the DMGs of each edition.
"Town" is often an appellation added to a place's name and whether a settlement is a "village" or "town" depends on the speaker's point of view.[note 1]
Usage
In article text and infoboxes, the Great Library of Greyhawk wiki uses either the most specific term (typically third edition) or the current edition's term.

Notes
- ↑ "Certain enhancements, such as adding "Town" after the name of a village or city (for example. Hardby Town), are not uncommon. Terms for communities (hamlet, village, town, city) are casually applied even in formal speech and writing. Safeton, Narwell, Hardby and Elmshire might be called villages by those who hold them in low esteem, or cities by those who think them important. They are in fact towns."—Player's Guide (1998), p.16
- ↑ These are calculated estimates. Individual populations are calculated from "total" populations given in World Builder's Guidebook for groups of settlements in an area. Totals are divided amongst settlements based on types of settlements listed for that area.
