Xapatlapo is a previously Olman city in Hepmonaland, now inhabited by yuan-ti.

Description
"The yuan-ti of Xapatlapo are withdrawn and rarely pass their borders. They have not raided in over a century and only occasionally travel west to trade with the islanders on the archipelago. Strange rumblings from the hills of Xapatlapo can be heard on nights when the air is still and the jungle silent; it is possible that the snake-men are fighting a battle against creatures from Underoerth, although that is more speculation.[1]"
History
Much like the Olman people of Alocotla, c.-1000 CY the high priests of Xapatlapo made the same dark pact with Tlaloc which involved "ceremonial sacrifice and the consumption of a thousand infants".[2]
Geography
Xapatlapo is nestled at the juncture of the Kelo Hills, the Azteotl Hills, and the Odan Ridge. It borders open grasslands found to the east, and the jungle found in the valley between the hills to the west.
People
While yuan-ti inherently may have varying appearances due to the nature of the species, those living near Xapatlapo have a regional phenotype. are predominantly pale yellow or white, with some albino specimens having been reported, the albinism carrying over to their Olman parts as well.[1]
Population
The people of Xapatlapo used to be entirely Olman. Now, however, the capital city (pop. 8,000) is ruled by yuan-ti, just like its sister cities, Alocotla and Ichmamna. Additionally, the population of the surrounding area is as much as 7,000 more, and there are tribes of mongrelfolk(800?), and tasloi(1,300?).
Religion
The yuan-ti of Xapatlapo primarily worship Tlaloc from the Olman pantheon.[1]
Languages
The Hepmonaland yuan-ti speak the language common to their region—Tlaman—since they come from Olman humans who originally spoke the Olman language.[3]

Heraldry

| Symbols of Xapatlapo and Alocotla, from The Scarlet Brotherhood, art by Sam Wood (1998). |
The heraldry at right depicts the city of Xapatlapo's symbol.[2]
In a case of "text trumps table",[note 1] the symbols for Xapatlapo and Alocotla in The Scarlet Brotherhood [2] may have been inadvertently mislabeled. The symbol of a serpent around a white eye would seem to represent the ruler of Xaptlapo who is known as "The White Eye". The symbol of a serpent surrounding a water symbol seems appropriate for Alocotla which is on the water (Tchlapac Lake).
Military
On the rare occasions when the yuan-ti of this place have been spotted, they are all heavily armed.[1]

Notes
- ↑ This common phrase "text trumps table" is a colloquialism used to summarize a principle when there is a layout error in D&D sourcebooks. Based on common previous practice up to that point, in the 2000s the publisher made clear that if there was discrepancy between information presented in text and that of a table, the text was presumed to be correct.[4][5] The principle is applied to any table, chart, art, or other graphic.
