Kundaxa (pronounced /koon-DAKS-ah/)[1] is a Touv city on the central southern coast of Hepmonaland known for mining precious gems.
Description
Kundaxa is a "center for learning and forward-thinkers" amongst the Touv.[2]
There is a road between Iyapo and Kundaxa with "farms, ranches and villages" along it.[3]
History
Kundaxa is a city of the former Kingdom of Kunda founded by the king's youngest son, Onave.[1] Kundaxa started as a mining settlement and grew to a large city. As the kingdom began to decline, Kundaxa's prince chose to break away from the kingdom, following the precedent set by Jolan and Ichmamna[4]
Many believe "if the former capital tried to reassert dominion over the independent states, it would have Kundaxa’s support" because when the Kundali states began pulling away from the king, Kundaxa remained loyal to the kingdom.[2]
Geography
Kundaxa is near the southern coast on the Sea of Sharks. It is nestled directly at the foot of the Imianme Hills, at the confluence of the Anmo and the Kumo Rivers.
It is far from its nearest neighbors and trade partners: Byanbo (350mi W) and Kundanol (280mi NE)[5].
Ecology
Flora
In addition to the normal trees of the jungle, dangerous or carnivorous plants are common.
Fauna
The area around Kundaxa, specifically the Imianme Hills, are populated by "many polymorphic beasts such chimera, perytons, dragonnes and manticores,[6] as well as tropical-adapted owlbears displacer beasts, and pegasi; it is rumored that magic causes these creatures to be born of normal animals or that some sort of enchantment encourages crossbreeding."[7]
The Imianme Hills have an abundance of dangerous animals. There are many snakes, including constrictors, as well as spitting and venomous snakes.[6] The Imianme also have a prevalence of bats in the area.[6]
Insects are common, both normal and giant, especially ants, bees, beetles, horseflies, and spiders;[8] as are a variety of giant lizards.[6]
Other creatures notably encountered in the Imianme Hills are:[6]
People
The vast majority of the population of the kingdom of Kundaxa are Touv. However, elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, and orcs are not native or indigenous to Kundaxa.
Wemics from the nearby Kabreevo Plain which surrounds the Imianme Hills are found in the open areas around Kundaxa, especially near water sources like the Anmo and Kumo Rivers..
Population
The nation of Kundaxa as a whole has a population of about 21,000, making it one of the largest three cities on the continent.
Religion
The people of Kundaxa worship the Touv pantheon in the same ways as other average members of the Touv culture.
Languages
The normal languages found in Touv culture and in Hepmonaland in general are spoken in Kundaxa. Touv of "all the former nations of the Kingdom of Kunda" speak a language comprised of "many tribal tongues" with "regional differences."[9]
Government
Heraldry
The heraldry at right depicts Kundaxa's national symbol.[10]
Economy
All of the Kunda states engage in trade with Kundaxa.[2] Byanbo does trade with Kundaxa.[4] There is a road from Iyapo to Kundaxa.[3]
Resources
The first thing ever discovered about the area surrounding Kundaxa, even before it was founded as a city, was the rich gem deposits. The mineral veins were so close to the surface and visible, they could be seen in open caves when the Kingdom of Kunda ordered the area explored.
The people keep the Anmo and the Kumo Rivers free of runoff from the mining, to maintain their sources of fresh water.[11]
Rumors and legends
A common belief is that the crown jewels of all of the former Kundali nations are all made from gemstones mined from Kundaxa.[2]
