Ahmut was an ancient Baklien warlord in Western Oerik. After the Spear of Stratis struck him in his grave he rose as an undead horror and assembled "Ahmut's Legion" to assist in the recovery of the Panopoly of Stratis and destroy Ravilla.

Description

Ahmut, the Scourge of Ravilla, is a vile-hearted necromancer, hater of life, and a powerful form of undead. It is unknown, however, what type of undead he is except that his raising was by divine means rather than a normal spell or ritual. Like many liches and other powerful undead, he is depicted as gaunt and nearly skeletal with only a minimal amount of tight skin and flesh. Ahmut has been shown with glowing purple-white eyes. He wears ancient-looking armor with a horsehair topknot on his helm. Art depicts him wearing something akin to Mongolian-Chinese lamellar heavy cavalry armor. His steed is shown wearing similar barding.

Personality

Of the few things known about Ahmut is that he is both patient and sociopathically insane. He knows that he has eternity to achieve his goals and can wait out any mortal who stands against him. He often whiles away his time performing horrendous torture, like grafting undead arms onto a victim and then commanding the arms to slowly tear the victim's flesh apart.

Abilities

Prior to Ahmut becoming undead, raised by the divine power of an artifact, there is no indication he was a magic-user of any kind. In fact, he is called a "normal warlord".[1]

But, afterward, he clearly has necromantic abilities to animate and control all manner of undead.

Possessions

Ahmut bears the weapon which brought him into unlife—the Spear of Stratis.

Relationships

Ahmut has few, if any, real relationships with people. His goal is the destruction and ruin of the world, which is second only to his desire for revenge against the elves of Ravilla. Fighting in the Godwar to collect powerful relics of Stratis' panoply was a distant third.

He has at least one warlord under him, Petrus, a shadow priest of the Red Scythe. Petrus, in turn, has at least one leiutenant, Bolkart, a half-orcish fighter.[2]

History

Ahmut in Life

Ahmut first entered history when, with the aid of the war-god Stratis, he gathered the nomadic Baklien and rode on the elven empire of Ravilla with intent to conquer. His canny tactics confounded the elves and ravaged Ravilla for three years. One night while he slept, however, an elven assassin sent by the Oligarchs of Ravilla, Prisca, slit Ahmut's throat in his sleep[3] and he died with a magical dagger in his heart.[4] It held onto his soul in a fragment of the blade, not allowing him to be raised or resurrected, or to move on to a final repose in the Outer Planes.[5] Without his leadership, the Baklien quickly fell into chaos and were easily defeated.[4] Ahmut was buried in an unmarked grave,[5] but not forgotten--the warlord's name continued to inspire fear for centuries to come.

Ahmut's Return

Three centuries later, when Stratis was killed, his last act was to scatter his panoply across Western Oerik. He cast his spear far away, and it plunged to earth directly into Ahmut's grave, awakening the warlord as an undead monstrosity. This, it was said, was Stratis's last act of vengeance on those who had slain him.[6]

With the Spear of Stratis, Ahmut was able to raise the dead as skeletons and zombies, undying soldiers with absolute loyalty to his cause.[7] He quickly caught the attention of the Red Scythe, a death cult devoted to Nerull. They thought to control Ahmut, but the undead warlord surprised them by killing their high priest with a single touch, then brought the entire cult into his service.[4]

Beginning with a tribe of troglodytes whose mountain lair he made his own,[4] Ahmut set about slaying as many creatures as possible and adding them to his growing legion. Soon, Ahmut controlled his own realm southeast of the remnant of Ravilla, and though he soon came into conflict with Drazen's Horde and the gnolls of Naresh, he continued to expand his bony grasp ever outward.
