Denis Tetreault (born May 1960) is a Canadian university Academic Advisor, lecturer, and paleontologist who also happens to dabble in RPG game design.

Biography

Denis Tetreault began playing D&D/AD&D in 1980 and has been a Greyhawk DM continuously since. Using the online moniker “Maldin”, he has been involved in the online D&D community since "The Dark Years" of TSR’s online activity as a regular on rec.games.frp.dnd (mainly from 1994-1997), an early member of the GEC Group and the "Greytalk" list (since 1996), and less frequent poster on the old Greyhawk-L list.

Tetreault launched his personal World of Greyhawk website "Maldin’s Greyhawk" on melkot.com in 1998, and it remains one of the oldest still-active Greyhawk websites on the web. "Maldin’s Greyhawk" contains an enormous amount of material from his own Greyhawk campaign and, like his home campaign, includes Spelljammer and Planescape materials. "Maldin’s Greyhawk" also hosts Mike Bridges’ "World of Greyhawk Comic" archive and the Dragonsfoot community "Mapping the Depths of the Earth" collaborative Greyhawk project.

He was the Greyhawk Adventures Webring ringmaster for more than 2 decades (once over 50 member sites, but webrings have gone the way of the dodo), and the Living World of Greyhawk Webring ringmaster (for RPGA Living Greyhawk official websites). As the more modern replacement for those, he is the admin for the Greyhawk Adventures Facebook page, the first such Greyhawk-dedicated group on Facebook. He was a member of the RPGA during the Living Greyhawk years, advisor to several Living Greyhawk regional triads, and was one of two official reviewers/fact checkers on the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (by Erik Mona, Gary Holian, Fred Weining, and Sean Reynolds, 192p.) published by Wizards of the Coast in 2000 and the reference book the Living Greyhawk RPGA campaign was built on.

Tetreault is best known for having designed and produced the RPGA/WotC Living Greyhawk campaign's official map for the City of Greyhawk. It was published as a 24" x 48" (61 x 122cm) poster map insert in Living Greyhawk Journal #2. Tetreault is also well-known for writing a continuing series of articles on the City of Greyhawk with Erik Mona (then editor of Dragon magazine, Dungeon magazine, and the Living Greyhawk Journal). He is also a frequent contributing editor for the Oerth Journal.

Parts of his home campaign have become part of Greyhawk official canon, such as the design of the City of Greyhawk and many locations within it, his original City of Melkot, and his own primary player character Maldin (appearing in Dragon magazine Issue #337 (2005), Wormfood: Bazaars of the Bizarre by Erik Mona, an article supporting the Age of Worms adventure path, as well as Living Greyhawk Journal #2, "Gem of the Flanaess: City of Greyhawk" (2000).
