Thessalar is Oerth's most infamous transmuter, a lich who specializes in creating new monsters. He takes credit for the mimic, rust monster, owlbear and several other monstrosities. Thessalar claims to be the wizard behind most of the monsters created via arcane experimentation. He's known for creating the thessalhydra and related creatures, which have multiple hydra-like heads surrounding a central maw.

For the past two decades, Thessalar has dwelled in the Wormcrawl Fissure, near Riftcanyon, where he continues his disturbing experiments in the creation of new life.
