The Water Rats (a colloquial name) are the Greyhawk Militia patrols assigned to monitor and defend the entire length of the Selintan River, from the Free City all the way to Hardby.[1]

The militia members on this patrol do no care for the name "Water Rats."[1]

Members

Each patrol typically consists of 10-16 militia members, wearing light armor and arms, but notably carrying polearms and nets.

There are usually (but not always) a member of the Guild of Lamplighers accompanying them.[1]

Headquarters

The main headquarters of the river patrols is in the City of Greyhawk. However, there are additional waypoints or stopping stations for them along the Selintan at Fordkeep, Two Ford, Peculiar Manor, One Ford, and to Hardby.

here is a minor shipwright service which does well in one Ford, where the small "punts" (small, falt-bottomed, boat with a square bow capable of being poled or rowed) are made. The wood is brought in from the Gnarley Forest.[2]

Activities

The patrols generally parallel the River Road, and travel north and south along the river, usually only going through "no farther than two stops along the route each day."[1]

Structure

Ranks

River patrols are led by a militia junior sergeant and are made up primarily of men-at-arms.[1]
