Kalstrand is the capital of the Kingdom of Ahlissa, having been the domain of Overking Xavener when he was still a prince of the Great Kingdom
Geography
Kalstrand is located at the junction of the Thelly and Grayflood Rivers in the soutern part of what used to be the Great Kingdom or Aerdy, near the border with Sunndi.
Cityscape
The city contains many architectural wonders including:
- Hovering Gardens—A levitation spell is used to keep a series of terraced, exotically vegetated bowers in the air above the northern part of the city.
- Merchant's Guildhall—A great columned building of which the guild is exceedingly proud.
- Museum of Antiquities—A museum run by priests of Boccob, who delight in being unhelpful and pompous. The museum contains many Suel and Baklunish artifacts, as well as some ancient Oeridian ones.
- Cathedral of Zilchus—This richly decorated building houses many valuable icons and is the center of the faith of Zilchus in Aerdy. The building itself cost 200,000gp to construct.
History
The population of the city doubled between roughly 545 and 585 CY due, in part, to the construction of the doubled city wall and excavated moat defense, along with magical defense measures. This led to the construction of a new area of the city northward and the expansion of said walls, which had yet to be completed by 585 CY.

The head of the worship of Zilchus in all of Aerdy is living in the grand cathedral in the city, as well as a number of priests of Boccob and Kurell.

Prominent locations
The Vault of the Hidden Horde, located in the catacombs beneath the city, is the most prominent temple of Kurell. The head of the temple is Arch-Avenger Vensch Estende.
