The Perrenland cantons are eight provinces of Perrenland originally defined by natural features and clan boundaries.
Cantons are separate political entities within the nation. A Cantonal Council heads each to manage affairs.
The original eight "founding" cantons have (with one exception) retained roughly the same borders over the past two centuries, while the clans themselves have intermarried and spread, in some cases across all Perrenland. There are now very few areas that are completely populated by only one clan, and likewise few clans limit themselves to only one area.
In the late 590s CY, talks among Perrenland leaders considered the possibility of annexing the Sepia Uplands and incorporating them into Perrenland. The additional territory would be named Canton of Vesbergen.
