Shantadern
Shantadern is village in the Southern Coast region of Nyrond.
It is one of a number of small ports located along the coast of Relmor Bay, being a fishing village with a population (in 591 CY) of around 1,000 people, and has modest docking facilities for the Nyrondese navy. It is now bullied by royal bailiffs raising taxes following the Greyhawk Wars. The locals are surly and fearful of the naval militias that visit and demand food and supplies. Their own militia troops are relatively ineffective. Smuggling is a way of life and a few people have even turned to piracy, especially in Shantadern. The common unhappiness and erosion of virtue which besets Nyrond is quite visible in this otherwise simple, unexceptional community.[1]
