Ivid the Undying is an unpublished sourcebook for the World of Greyhawk setting. Written by Carl Sargent, Ivid the Undying covers the post-Greyhawk Wars Great Kingdom, and is named for Ivid V, last Overking of that realm.
Publishing history
Ivid the Undying was writen circa 1993 by Carl Sargent for TSR. Althought the manuscript was largely completed, the book never saw print, for unknown reasons. It is speculated that TSR simply intended to discontinue the World of Greyhawk setting in 1993.
The stock number initially assigned (#9399) was instead reassigned to Iuz the Evil (1993).[citation needed]
The series code WGR7 has been used in the community at least as far back as 2001,[1] placing it as the last in the WGR series which ran from WGR1 Greyhawk Ruins in 1990 to Carl Sargent's WGR6 The City of Skulls in 1993. However, the code WGR7 is not official, and the community also uses the code WGRX.
In a response to a reader letter in Dragon #203 (Mar 1994), the magazine announced that they had acquired a copy of unpublished Ivid the Undying manuscript and intended to publish excerpts, compiled by Wolfgang Baur. Three such articles were published: Dragon #204 (Apr 1994), A Strange Alliance; Dragon #206 (Jun 1994), The Sea Barons; and Dragon #208 (Aug 1994), The Adri Forest.
TSR released the manuscript online, circa April 1995 on the America Online internet service.[2]
The file was released as a plain text document named ivid.txt,[3] and appeared at the AOL Keyword "TSR" on "Download of the Month" library, released in both DOS and Mac plain text formats, as well as including three maps in GIF format.[4]
On October 27, 1997, William Allman completed a conversion of the document from plain text into RTF format.[3]
An unofficial PDF release was created on Mar 2, 2002, hosted at The Acaeum. Subsequent small updates were made to this file between 2003 and 2013, including the addition of a title image and sidebar graphics similar to those appearing in Iuz the Old.
Allman's RTF version was uploaded to the Wizards of the Coast Previous Edition Downloads page, likely at the page's creation on June 3, 2003. This included maps from the Dragon articles.[5]
Excerpts were printed in Dragon in 1993 and 1994. TSR released it as a free download in their America Online folders. Wizards of the Coast, after their purchase of TSR, continued to make Ivid the Undying available as a free download on the company's website.
