Vlad Tolenkov is a vampire wizard who rules a run-down castle on the Nightworld that is sometimes given his name. He is not the ruler of that world, but only one lord in one area of that nightmarish world of darkness.
Relationships
Vlad controls an army of undead and shares his castle with ghouls and ghasts allowed to feed on the corpses he has drained with blood.
Vlad Tolenkov is a member of the Union of Eclipses, a world-spanning cabal of powerful vampires and undead. Each member of the Union claims to be its leader, but in fact they all swear fealty to the god Kanchelsis.
The demon queen Lolth holds Vlad Tolenkov in admiration and treats him as a diplomat, lover, and strategic consultant assisting in her plans of world domination. Vlad's immediate goal is to disrupt trade in his area in preparation for the demon queen's later conquest.
Kuroth once stole a necklace of flawless, matched emeralds from Tolenkov's coffin while he slept. (DR#294.96)
