Barren Keep is a keep in the Kingdom of Nyrond.

Description

By Spring 585 CY Barren Keep was a half ruined keep standing in the middle of nearly a hundred square miles of semi-barren land supporting only scrawny grass. The land was not farmed by anyone, and was allegedly cursed and certainly infertile.[1] The keep was said to be haunted.[2]

In Spring 585 CY Cunal Blackmar was hiding out in the dungeons there with a group of half a dozen young nobles planning to overthrow corrupt and weak rulers of Nyrond, and supporting Prince Lynwerd taking over as a king. From the keep they rode out masked fighting the bandits plaguing the northern lands, ranging as far as the Flinty Hills.[2] The group included a fellowship of young rangers, fighters, a bard and a priest of Mayaheine, who protected local farmers, and robbed the rich to give money to the poor.[3]

Living Greyhawk Campaign

In the Living Greyhawk campaign, Barren Keep featured in several adventures. It was also detailed in the "Nyrond Gazetteer" fan-created sourcebook. The organizing Triad for the Nyrond region created maps of Nyrond showing the borders of various provinces, including that Barren Keep fell within the Duchy of Orberend.[4]
