Kerrinn is a town on the Franz River in the Kingdom of Nyrond.
Geography
Kerrinn is located on the eastern side of the Franz River, between Dosselford (in the County of Urnst) and Trigol-Curtulenn.
The locks at Kerrinn are the furthest upriver the Franz River is navigable.[1]
The lands between the Franz River and Duntide River are a fertile area of Nyrond with much grain-growing and cloth-weaving outside the cities.[2]
History
Kerrinn is best known for its lock complex holding the sluggish waters of the northern Franz River in an artificial reservoir. A weighting system uses load-stones to artificially increase the depth and flow rate of the river. Barges, small cogs and smaller vessels anchor in great numbers at the town, which is the highest navigable point on the river.[3]
In the aftermath of the Greyhawk Wars the people in and around were able to pay the regular extra taxes demanded by King Archbold III without being ruined, although with much grumbling, due to the revenue from the extensive trade with the County of Urnst. Payment of taxes to maintain its militias was required to deal with a plague of monster attacks by purple worms, ankhegs, even a bulette. The well-equipped soldiers were able to deal with the attacks efficiently (and with some luck). [3]
People
Population
In Spring 585 CY the city had a population of 3,000.[3] By 591 CY it had grown to 3,500.[4]
Demographics
The usual races of Nyrond would be expected to be found here, being humans (with an Oeridian dominance, and Suel present, as ethnic background), Olve (mainly sylvan with a small high elf presence), Halfling (stout), Dwarf, Gnome, half-elf and half-orc.[4]
Nyrond generally is lawful neutral in alignment, with lawful good, neutral good, chaotic good, and neutral also prevalent.[4]
Religion
The common religions of Nyrond can be expected to be followed here, being Heironeous (the official state religion), Beory, Rao, Pelor, Zilchus, Norebo, Pholtus, Ralishaz, Boccob, Delleb, Celestian.[4]
Following the Greyhawk Wars superstitions and the worship of evil gods (including Hextor and Incabulos) began to grow as a sign of the despair of the common folk.[5]
Languages
The common languages of Nyrond can be expected to be spoken here, being Common, Nyrondese, Old Oeridian, Elven, and Halfling.[4]
Government
Kerrinn is located within the Kingdom of Nyrond.
There was a reorganization of provincial administration under King Lynwerd I that commenced Needfest 1, 591 CY. It was not detailed which province Kerrinn fell within.[4]
Economy
The town conducts extensive trade with the County of Urnst providing significant revenue, and a network of trading villages and hamlets surrounds the town (including across the river).[3]
Living Greyhawk campaign
In the Living Greyhawk campaign, Kerrinn featured in several adventures. It was also detailed in the "Nyrond Gazetteer" fan-created sourcebook. The organizing Triad for the Nyrond region created maps of Nyrond showing the borders of various provinces.[6]
